Okay.. so I finished the subbed version of the first episode that BMW shared with me. I have to say.. there were a few things I hadn't picked up watching it before, but it generally fell in line with my initial impressions. My initial discussion of acting and directing follow true. I will concede it's a first episode and I think the show could improve a lot in subsequent episodes now that the basics have been introduced.

I do, however, now have my doubts about Ruka as a homosexual. I think actually, because she's always been a loner, it's equally likely that she idealized Michuru she was younger because she's never gotten along with people. It's easy to see how such a feeling of love and intimacy could have developed for her over those four years of absence. This is not concrete, but I feel is a possible development that Ruka's character could enjoy throughout the series.

Hmm, that's an interesting observation.
Yeah, the subs didn't add that much more to what I observed from the previous non-subbed viewing, aside from some of the background narrative from each of the characters.

I did fast forward through Sosuke's beating of Michiru: I found it to be brutal and hard to watch... I'd be lying if I didn't say I hope he gets his comeuppance later...
- I'd hate to think they'd put Masami-chan into the typical subservient role it looks like her character is heading to. But then again, this is a drama... no cliche is safe.
- I'd watched it without subs only halfway, and only watched it till the end just now. That last frame pretty much sealed the deal for watching the next one.
- Minor details I liked:
1) the way Ruka stood while holding the umbrella
2) so even the Japanese think a male makeup artist is gay? and I actually thought "wait, that might be normal for them..."
3) brown jacket + bike + Juri = to whoever thought up that get-up
That said, hopefully the hardsub comes soon enough.

Dude! That guy in the back on the right is Yamada's father from Honey and Clover.. it's all so incestuous!
I haven't seen the Honey and Clover drama in its entirety, but really, that's the guy who played Yamada's father? The anime version was this big hulking dude, and the guy in the picture just doesn't look like a guy who could give Mayama a beating

It's the tragic thing about that show.. so many of the actors chosen for the characters are fantastic (Takemoto , Morita, Ramada-Sempai (? - he isn't in the anime but is a totally hilarious character in the drama).. but the directing is absolutely horrible. It might be the slowest most belabored watching I have ever done. Full review to follow my watching of the last two eps. _________________

I've yet to watch the first episode with subs, so I don't know exactly what was going on but if what I think went down is correct then all I have to say is, Juri-chan needs to pay for the umbrella

You know I posted my edited subs for download on the previous page, ne?
I thought the umbrellas were for public use... On the Honor System.
