Be careful eating in Osaka!

Upmarket restaurant inspected for serving leftover food

May 2 06:35 AM

OSAKA, May 2 (AP) - (Kyodo) Osaka health officials inspected scandal-hit upmarket Japanese restaurant operator Senba Kitcho K.K. again Friday, this time on suspicion of providing leftover food to customers.
Senba Kitcho continued the practice until November 2007 when it stopped operations after it was found to have been offering customers products with expired consumption dates or falsely labeled regarding the origins of ingredients, health officials said.

The practice took place under an instruction from former Senba Kitcho President Masanori Yuki, who resigned in January to take responsibility for the false-labeling scandal.

The fresh development came less than four months after Senba Kitcho resumed operations at its flagship "ryotei" Japanese-style restaurant in Osaka on Jan. 22.

The Osaka municipal public health center said that Senba Kitcho's use of leftovers does not directly violate the Food Sanitation Law, which requires food providers to maintain the safety of their products.

Reusing food does not contravene the law as long as the quality of the food is maintained and there is no risk to human health, officials said.

But health center officials, who inspected Senba Kitcho, said it cannot avoid its moral responsibility as a food provider for selling leftover food to customers.

The health center urged Senba Kitcho on Friday not to repeat the practice, the officials said.

Senba Kitcho kept food items left untouched by customers, such as salt-broiled fish and "tempura" fried food, and served them to other customers after re-cooking them, according to health officials and a lawyer representing Senba Kitcho.

Former Senba Kitcho President Yuki, 74, had instructed employees to "use anything that can be used," they said.

The lawyer told reporters that the restaurant had not served leftover food since it resumed operations in January.

After the revelation of the false-labeling scandal, Senba Kitcho closed all of its four outlets in November.

In January, Senba Kitcho resumed operations at its flagship outlet in Osaka's Chuo Ward and its Hakata branch outlet in Fukuoka.

Senba Kitcho fell into financial trouble due to the scandal and was granted court authorization for the start of its rehabilitation in late January.

Osaka police have continued investigations into the labeling scandal aimed at establishing a case against Yuki and his son Kikuo, 45, a former board member, on suspicion of violating the unfair competition prevention law in connection with the alleged false labeling of beef products.

Yuki's wife Sachiko has headed Senba Kitcho since January.

Edit: The practice appears to have been widespread and included cooked dishes like tempura and even sashimi.

Drop-by IV drip service helps stressed Tokyoites
By Taro Fujimoto

TOKYO
Hard-working people suffer daily from exhaustion, insomnia, backaches and other minor ailments. Perhaps all they need is a dose of preventive medicine in the form of vitamins and other nutritional supplements.

On April 1, a private service, called Tenteki10, opened in Ebisu Garden Place, to provide gpick-me-upsh through IV drips. People can drop by without a reservation and take the 10-minute instillation right away.

Tenteki10, which is located on the 4th floor of Ebisu Garden Place Tower, operates as a subsidiary of a medical clinic. Because it is a medical practice, the drip is given by nurses and doctors. However, it is not covered by National Health Insurance.

Ten options with different effects and five courses consisting of these options are available. The basic price is 2,000 yen, and customers can request an option or course menu, for an additional charge.

gMany people daily suffer from exhaustion, insomnia and backaches on a daily basis because they donft take proper care of themselves,h says a doctor at Tenteki10. gThey try supplements, home remedies or cheap energy injections. Some of these ailments cannot be healed that way and could possibly develop into more serious illnesses, including depression.h

But the service at Tenteki10 is not gcosmetic,h the doctor adds. gItfs epreventive medicine.f Also, we donft publicize this service like a business, nor do we suggest it to anyone. We just leave leaflets at the clinic. We think of it as an option for people to raise their awareness of daily health management on their own.h

A spokesperson for Tenteki10 says, gWe donft want our customers to believe that the drip service will bring them perfect health. Although it has strong and quick effects, it is more important that customers be more aware of how to take responsibility for their daily health. Our service is just one option for them.h

According to Tenteki10, about 30 male and female customers a day currently make use of the drip service as remedies for exhaustion as well as for skin care and anti-aging purposes. Some of them come with their husband, wife or family.

Nuts. I'll take yakisoba IV with ocha. Nut

I saw a drama last year with people, after a days work at the ER, used IV on themselves before going home. I always thought it was because it was a really dark drama, but never thought someone would be crazy enough to do that. It beats injecting heroin and coke, but still f-up to me.

He drove his life off a cliff, just to steal a pungent whiff....

=============================================
Soccer Star Arrested for Stealing Women's Panties

A member of J-League soccer team Kashiwa Reysol was arrested this week for sneaking into a 21-year old woman's home and stealing her panties seven years ago. Why now? DNA results just came in.

On September 11, 2001, he snuck into the woman's house in Kobe and stole her panties and cell phone. He was 19 at the time—a minor in Japan—so his name hasn't been disclosed to the press.

Why a soccer superstar would need to steal panties is a big mystery. Kashiwa's male fans, at least, seem willing to strip down even without being asked to.
