Screenwriter Kitagawa directing first film
Fri, May 2, 2008
Celebrated screenwriter Eriko Kitagawa is making the leap to filmmaking. She is best known for hit romance dramas such as "Aishiteru to Itte Kure," "Long Vacation," and "Beautiful Life." Now, she has directed one of her own scripts, with the help of director Shunji Iwai ("Hana and Alice") and music producer Takeshi Kobayashi.
Iwai reportedly initiated the project, strongly persuading Kitagawa to take the helm. Iwai is serving as producer along with Kobayashi. This is the first film produced by Kobayashi, who is better recognized as a former member of MY LITTLE LOVER and a producer for popular artists such as Mr.Children.
The youth romance story revolves around two high schoolers, Hiro and Shuu. They are played by Kie Kitano and Masaki Okada, respectively. The supporting cast includes Hiroki Narimiya, Miho Shiraishi, and Takao Osawa.
The film's title in Japanese is "Harufuwei" (ntEFC). When asked about the meaning of the name, Kitagawa simply said, "Just wait until you watch it." The movie was shot over the span of half a month starting in late October of last year. It is expected to be released in spring 2009.

Watched Godzilla Final Wars...
what can I say, it's a Godzilla movie...but I've loved the big guy's stuff since I was a kid ....
What surprised me was the number of Jdorama actors in this film, in leading roles and cameos...Masahiro Matsuoka, Rei Kikukawa, Masami Nagasawa, Shigeru Izumiya, Kenta Suga, Jun Kunimura, Masato Ibu, Sano Shiro...
It was fun watching this , just waiting to see who would show up next... _________________

Being on a drama break (the weather is simply to good), I'm concentrating on movies.
Currently watching Sukiyaki Western Django, which will surely take me another week - I only manage 15, 20 min in a row since I have to concentrate so much to understand

The only Japanese movie so far that I have actually bought is After Life, a movie I wholeheartedly recommend. It's no action flick, it's not too melodramatic either, so it may not keep everyone's interest throughout, but its premise was enough to get me to watch. Certainly had me reflecting on my life and my memories as well.

I finally got around to finishing Tokyo Tower (2007)...it was a very intimate look at the relationship between a mother and son....Joe Odagiri was quite believable as the the son who evolved from a parochially minded child to a young man who loves and cares for his mother embodying that ever Confucian virtue of filial piety. A touching and painful look at life and death.

I watched Sugar and Spice last night on the train. Nice but not groundbreaking, just a little story about first love. I thought Sawajiri Erika wasn't that good in this one though.
