GSDF member rearrested after performing hara-kiri in front of Diet Bldg
A Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF) member who had been hospitalized after performing hara-kiri in front of the Diet Building last week in a suicide bid was rearrested Tuesday, police said.
Shungo Suzukida, 20, a lance corporal at the GSDF, stands accused of trespassing and illegal possession of a sword under the Firearms and Swords Control Law. Suzukida was quoted by investigators as saying that he was dissatisfied with the government's diplomatic policies and other issues.
At around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday last week, Suzukida stabbed himself in the stomach with a sword in front of the central entrance to the Diet Building in Tokyo, police said.
Police officers arrested him at the scene for trespassing, but temporarily released him shortly afterwards for hospitalization, the Metropolitan Police Department said. He was taken into custody again on Tuesday after he had recovered considerably from his stab wounds.

TOKYO (Reuters) - Ladies, take your battle for the environment a little closer to your heart with a solar-powered bra that can generate enough electric energy to charge a mobile phone or an iPod.
Lingerie maker Triumph International Japan Ltd unveiled its environmentally friendly, and green colored, "Solar Power Bra" on Wednesday in Tokyo which features a solar panel worn around the stomach. The panel requires light to generate electricity and the concept bra will not be in stores anytime soon, said Triumph spokeswoman Yoshiko Masuda, as "people usually can not go outside without wearing clothes over it."
But it does send the message of how lingerie could possibly save the planet, Masuda said, adding that the bra should not be washed or sunned on a rainy day to avoid damaging it. Being eco-friendly is now fashionable in Japan, and the "Solar Energy Bra" follows the company's other green-themed undergarments that include a bra that turns into a reusable shopping bag and one that featured metal chopsticks to promote the use of reusable chopsticks.
"It is very comfortable and I can really feel involved in eco-friendly efforts as well," model Yuko Ishida said.

Cat puts Japan rail firm on track
By tabana
A loss-making Japanese railway company is back on track thanks to the popularity of a stray cat.
Wearing a black cap and posing for photos with passengers, Tama the tabby is credited with boosting Wakayama Electric Railway's revenue by 10%. The firm had to axe all staff at Kishi station in western Japan two years ago. But Tama stuck by her post and was rewarded with promotion to station manager. The pet mascot even has her own office, a former ticket booth.
The feline, who was born and raised at the station in the city of Kinokawa, Wakayama prefecture, is living proof of the Japanese belief that cats are good luck. "She never complains, even though passengers touch her all over the place. She is an amazing cat. She has patience and charisma. She is the perfect station master," said Yoshiko Yamaki, a spokeswoman for the rail company. The nine-year-old - who receives cat food in lieu of a salary - won national stardom last year when the firm formally appointed her as "station master".
Since then passengers have been gradually returning, recently rising 10% to about 2.1 million a year. The cat has spawned a range of popular merchandise, including a picture book called: "Diary of Tama, the Station Master."
I just noticed the random blue bucket in the dudes room. With liquid. He either has a leak in his roof, or that's his bath for when he gets home from Akihabara. _________________

A sponge bath to be exact....for the person in question is hikikomori.
Hikikomori (Ђ or Ă, Hikikomori?, lit. "pulling away, being confined", i.e. "acute social withdrawal") is a Japanese term to refer to the phenomenon of reclusive individuals who have chosen to withdraw from social life, often seeking extreme degrees of isolation and confinement due to various personal and social factors in their lives.
