Their best selling album is their first one since it has their biggest hit ever, A.RA.SHI, that sold 973k ^^
These are the most accurate numbers I've found for their albums sales:
ARASHI NO.1 (Ichigou) Arashi wa Arashi wo Yobu (2001) - 323,030 Arashi Single Collection 1999-2001 (2002) - 142,254 HERE WE GO! (2002) - 147,520 How's it going? (2003) - 114,865 Iza, Now (2004) - 151,110 5x5 THE BEST SELECTION OF 2002-2004 (2004) - 170,828 One (2005) - 147,970 ARASHIC (2006) - 162,750 Time (2007) - 272,330 Dream"A"live (2008) - 272,737 (still charting)
I am not at all familiar with Japanese music market, but to me, the album sale of 100+k is considered low or may be.. just so so ..... but this is considered high sale for Japan already ? Shouldn't a successful album reach a million sale ? I have always thought that a popular group like Arashi should earn something like 500+K sale for each of their album... now seeing the numbers you posted, I wonder whether there is any of Johnny's group earned 1 million album sale... may be SMAP ? or none ? _________________

As far as I know, they only Johnny's million seller albums are SMAP's Smap Vest and Kinki Kids A album and Kinki Single Collection~ Arashi's singles tend to sell way better than their albums (not sure about the rest of groups since they're the only group I check CD sales of, along with KAT-TUN XD) and I personally I don't understand it >_<' There are way more songs in an album and lots of them include bonuses such as booklets, DVDs, etc. I would rather wait for the album instead of buying the single with just a couple of songs (or buy both XDD)
Right now, an album with +100k copies sold is quite a hit, I'd say~ A few years ago it was "easy" to reach the million mark, especially for artists like Ayumi Hamasaki, Kumi Koda, B'z, Mr. Children, etc; but since last year practically every artists' sales have declined, and quite a lot >_<' In this site you can see the yearly TOP10 albums since 1970 and you can see in the last 2 years only a few managed to sell a million, and most of them are bests u_u This year so far only 3 albums have reached the million mark (2 albums of EXILE and one of Kobukuro).
Hope this answered your question XDD Sorry for the long post~! _________________

Hikaru.. thanks for the explanation, now I see some light I used to buy the singles before (those which are available in my country) but now I would also rather wait for the album (but so far I have all Arashi's & NEWS's singles... huhhh)...
A little bit out of the topic... talking about Kobukuro, when I was in Japan last Spring, I met a friend of my sister who strongly recommended me to buy Kobukuro's albums. I saw this Duo from time to time in Music Station but never really paid attention to their songs. I bought it though but it is not actually my kind of music and the sale guy at HMV shop also had a kind of negative reaction when I asked him whether this Duo are famous... he shook his head ... Seeing you quoting Kobukuro with such huge sales, it's a big surprise to me... gosh ...if they earned such kind of album sales, they must be really famous, right ? wonder why the guy at HMV didn't think so... _________________

For Tukata, however much the sales is declining in Japan, it's happening around the world too, even in the US. If you check this weekly World Chart, you'll see that Japan is still the second biggest industry in the world, first is the US.
For me, I see Arashi as an extremely famous boy band in Japan, among younger generations, of course. Naturally, the album/single sales below 500K is a big shock to me... considering Japanese music industry. But for Johnny's Group, I think album sale is not everything for them, JE must have earned a great deal from some other ways & means....
I think I lived in my own world, but as I said now I see some light _________________

Well Korea has DBSK & Super Junior which are really really famous in Asia, and yet last year, SuJu has the highest album sales in Korea and it doesn't even reach 200k, am I correct? That just shows how much sales is declining. Arashi maybe a famous boyband, but not everybody like their music and they're probably more famous from other media like TV for example. I like Arashi too, but I'm not fan enough to buy their stuff. _________________

Sho Sakurai fractures thumb
Arashi member Sho Sakurai has fractured his right thumb, it was learned on Sunday.
The group had been rehearsing on Sunday for a concert at Nagoya Dome when Sakurai accidentally fell from the stage. His hand was injured, and practice was halted so that he could be taken to the hospital. He later returned with his thumb immobilized, but he still performed with the group during the concert later that day. Sakurai admitted his injury to the audience, saying that it was the first time he had experienced a broken bone.
Sakurai's complete recovery is estimated to take about a month, but he expects to finish the rest of Arashi's current tour as planned.
