Shin2/BMWRacer,
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm always up for a good samurai movie so I'll look for them. I like seeing different variations of certain stories, but that all depends on the story being good.
I just finished Ooku Season 3 and can mildly recommend it. It's the same story as Atsu-hime, but better overall. The problem with the Atsu-hime story is that she only has one real significant event in her life-the peaceful handover of Edo Castle to the Satcho forces, and that was more Katsu Kaishu's doing than hers. Ooku centers around her life in the Ooku(duh), the problems she faces there, the political wranglings in the Ooku, and the change of her beliefs. It's kept to only eleven episodes and a special which was a good idea because there just isn't enough story, even with embellishment, to make it longer like Atsu-hime which each episode is 95% filler. If you want to see a version of the story made for an adult audience, this is it.
I'm halfway through Last Christmas. Such a great show. Yada Akiko is so adorable, she can't help but draw you into her her troubles. Kind of reminds me a little of the Korean drama My Sassy Girl (haven't seen the JDo remake yet). The office dramas and triangles that go on in this show so much remind me of where I work. One more episode before bed! _________________

Kimi ga oshietekureta koto episode 1-2
I really like it. Mayuko and Shinichi's conversations, Mayuko singing... So peaceful and beautiful. So glad that I come upon this after a string of disappointments.
Isn't the definitive version the one by Mizoguchi Kenji?
Imo I don't think there is a definitive version.
Only a small fraction of the films and TV series based on the Chushingura story have been made readily available to the West, and I think some of these Western movie critics saw Mizoguchi's name and promptly declared his version to be the definitive one.
There's no way they could have seen (unless they were fluent in Japanese) enough versions to make such a declaration.
I've also seen the "definitive" tag applied to Inagaki's 1962 version, but it, along with Mizoguchi's version, are probably the only two Chushingura films that were for the longest time readily available with English subtitles.
In recent years, more subtitled versions, going all the way back to ones made in the 1950's, have become available through internet sites, although none of these have been officially marketed for U.S. distribution.
I've seen perhaps half-a-dozen versions (both film and TV), and I can say there were at least a couple--including the Taiga series Genroku Ryoran-- that I enjoyed more than Mizoguchi's and Inagaki's versions.
But then I'm not a professional movie critic, so what the hell do I know.

Finished Koi ni Ochitara tonight! What a treat.. the last ep. was really sappy.. but the rest of it was great. I may have a new favorite. I'll definitely post a glowing review tomorrow
Now.. what's next, there's the real question...
I was thinking something with my favorite little Shibasaki Kou (I miss Sae...) or Tsumabuki Satoshi.
So.. is it Lunch No Jouu, Good Luck (wow.. all star cast in this one eh?), or Galileo?
Also got Proposal Daisakusen, Long Vacation, and Sekei Bijin waiting in the wings _________________

Yeah, I kinda figured. It's a hard persona to duplicate. I don't know.. I do think it's time for a good strong female lead again.. Koi no Ochitara was rather male-centered... probably good to get something a little more feminine in. _________________

Dear Readers,
After discussion with the project leaders regarding Mop Girl, I hereby announced that Mop Girl will be put on hold for the time being. There are a few hiccups regarding the subbing progress for Mop Girl hence the slow progress. We will not drop this project just that progress might be a bit slow.
On behalf of TimeLesSub, I'm so sorry for putting this on hold but I didn't want those who has been waiting for the remaining episodes clueless as to what is going in with this project. We are doing our best to overcome this matter and we hope that you viewers out there would understand our situation.
Lastly, thank you in advance for your co-operation and sorry again for any inconvenience.
...on topic: Finished Kurosagi last night. Kinda lackluster, but I suppose they do better in the movie (watching that next). Also have Medaka spooled up and ready to go for my next 'in-between' series as the subs for each show keep coming out this season!
So I'm on episode 4 of Shomuni and I've FINALLY gotten a little interested in it. I don't know why, but I was sorta bored with the first few episodes. The first episode didn't hook me at all, tho I can see clearly why some of the guys enjoyed this drama. (jokes)
But I'm enjoying it now. Something about the third epi clicked with me. I can't say I'm thoroughly into it, but at least now I can see some promise. _________________
