Can I say they are the BEST group in Japan right now? Right up there with SMAP.

LOL maybe not on par with SMAP! They could be when Himitsu no Arashi-chan hits the kind of 18%-20% of rating like SMAPxSMAP, or having million sellers in the case of Sekai ni...(2 million to be exact), Yozora no Mukou or Lion Heart, or having ALL 5 members consistently in the Top10 of favourite men polls. hehe

Mada mada da ne...Their time will come I'm sure, maybe not now.

No way! Besides Akame, I've never seen any of the other's names in polls at the top, and their TV show sucks in rating (only about 4-5% per episode).

well... Japan love those Akakame .. and they are kinda hot... well.. hoter than Kusanagi or Goro... but that's besides the point. Being on An-An top ranks of most wanted men doesn't equate to being the best group imo, its still an individual race to get into that top ten list right? Consistent or otherwise.

I thought Real Face already reached 2million sales Crazy or maybe will reach that number soon. i don't keep track of kattun's numbers so i'm not sure myself.4-5% ratings? Why did they get all the cool guest?? i want Hyde to be guest in Shukudai-kun or Himitsu too.. however, Yukan Club got high ratings right?

However ratings wise, Arashi Odoroki special reached 17% i think and the TFP2 appearance reached 19.7% (but that was only guest appearance). My assumption for Arashi being a great group as SMAP was because of their credibilities. All excelled individually and as a group. If figures mattered than it'll be their concerts but even I don't have the exact figures to compare Sweat. Kanjani8 too had done impressively with their 47con. The only difference for Arashi are they had done the Asia tour AND not forgetting the coming National Stadium Concert which only them, SMAP & Dreams Come True had the chance to perform there.
As a group I have to say they are highly regarded by the media also the industry members young or respected veterans alike. The praises are overwhelming and I think that's why the government took notice of them. They are just a wholesome well liked group imho. So right now, they are the top but not as legendary as SMAP... yet Mr Green

Well, for a group who literally have achieved high success in EVERYTHING, it would be hard to surpass SMAP, is all I wanna say. When KAT-TUN got their million-seller in Real Face, everybody thinks that they're gonna be the next SMAP (and I beg to differ!). And now Arashi only have like 20% of what SMAP have achieved in their 10 years since debut, and people think it's Arashi next. Maybe next year the status will move to another group, who knows? Maybe before getting to SMAP level, maybe everybody in JE should try for KinKi Kids' position instead, trying to beat their Guiness World Book of Records, that is. Mr Green

Actually, the tentative date was 27 August, but they appear to be released one week earlier this time. So 20 Aug is the official date.

im assuming that song is supposed to be the olympic song..as what tokyograph has posted..

Arashi provides another Olympic theme song
Thu, July 10, 2008 (1:45am EDT)

With Sho Sakurai having been appointed as the main caster for NTV's broadcast of the Olympic Games, it comes as no surprise that Arashi has been chosen to provide the theme song for the network's Olympic coverage. This will actually be their second Olympic song, as "Hero" was used by NTV for the 2004 Games in Athens.

Their new tune is titled "Kaze no Mukou e" and will be released on August 20.

--------------------
at first i really thought that Sho will be having a series.. Beaten

hmm.. but i thought Arashi had achieved about now is 70% of SMAP had done prior to their 10th anniversary. Crazy i'm too lazy to list them down though :p

btw, Yozora no Mukou was released in 2001 right? That's the single that hit 1million first I think which was released on their 10th anniv. After Sekai (2003) was when SMAP really became a legend. That's 2 years after their 10th anniversary. Technically Arashi might've achieved almost the same amount of glory as SMAP as they are getting closer to their 10th anni. but that's just me being nit-picky Bonk

- LOL. no offense but I find it funny that it seems like a sin to ever mention that a group MIGHT surpass SMAP's glory according to you. hehe and I was just opening it as a question rather than a statement. I didn't even suggested that they'll be surpassing SMAP just, PRESENTLY they are as notable as SMAP. Sorry to have misslead you Sweat. SMAP will always be legendary that's why there will always be comparisson by the fans. Everyone wants to be as successful as SMAP but not necessarrily be exactly like them. Its a compliment yo~ Mr Green
EDIT: whoaaa.. look what I found at fybabe's: http://fybabe.blog96.fc2.com/blog-entry-631.html. it seems like it is taboo subject. even the fans don't want them to cross the senpai line yet. never knew that before. its not like SMAP / or Takuya be any less of a legend with others gaining on the rankings Crazy

aa~aaah~
they are really busy this year Smile

That was just a rumour and a tentative release date, like WD said. Since they were singing the theme song for Ohno's currently airing drama (Truth) and they performed a new song on their tour (Green) everyone assumed those two songs would be in the upcoming single, but as you can see they're not XDD

What I posted is official information, there ain't no Arashi single release on the 27th~

Yozora no Mukou was from 1998, 7 years after their debut. And for a group who never had a Top10 song until Ookini Maido Ari (which was already their 12th single), that was such a great feat. At least Arashi got it with a bang with their debut single. Btw, the million-seller released in 2000 was Lion Heart.

Yes, it's pretty much a taboo subject, even to fans of SMAP/other JE group. I'm a SMAP/Kanjani8 fan, but even I don't want Kanjani8 to be compared to SMAP. Maybe when SMAP retire one day, but definitely not now or, 5 years from now! Mr Green

i still don't get it though Bonk
what are the consequences of seemingly able to surpass SMAP before SMAP's retirement? Don't get me wrong, I love SMAP but I really don't get the fear and taboo Beaten

oh well... Arashi is Arashi, SMAP is SMAP. I say both are the top group in Japan right now Mr Green

I'm not saying that SMAP cannot be surpassed, they definitely can, but it will be hard for any of the current group now to do so, even Arashi. And to say that Arashi is on par with SMAP is probably over the top. Unless the whole country has actually recognized the names of every Arashi member the way the whole country can with every SMAP member, or the fact that if each Arashi member can pull the strings and get away with stuff or influential enough the way each SMAP member can. Maybe in another 5 years you can finally say that Arashi are on par with SMAP, but I don't think now is the right time.

Tell me really, do the whole country, even those at the rural area, can actually recite each Arashi's member name the way they can with SMAP? hehe

Give it time, maybe one day they can. I just don't see that happening now, the way you're implying that is.

oh. i was actually implying that they are very popular this year and comparing it to the level of activity by SMAP within this year (2007-2008). serves me right for daring to compare Arashi with SMAP Beaten

EDIT: sorry WD or any SMAP fan that might be offended.. or any Arashi fans that might think I'm delusional for actually thinking that but I only assumed there's a comparison after I came upon Huxley's vox and read her collection of male fans blog entries as translated by her. This entry cought my attention (Arashi Is The Ideal Team Management) which was written a year ago. His description on Arashi was spot on. Another recent translation of hers really touched me. Sakurai-san gave an interview to CUT Magazine recently. CUT caters to a wider audience than just fangirls (like MYOJO, WINK-UP, POTATO, DUET, etc.) so the articles there are usually more profound. All I can say is, I'm a proud Arashi fan Mr Green

"Hana Yori Dango Final" is still a hit at the box office. On Saturday and Sunday, while the movie's main cast flew around the country to promote the film, it took in an additional 580 million yen to rank #1 for the third weekend in a row. In the 16 days since its release, it has earned close to 3.8 billion yen, with more than 3 million fans having seen the film.

The movie is expected to finally be ousted from the #1 spot this coming weekend, when Studio Ghibli's "Gake no Ue no Ponyo" opens in theaters.
