As far as the drama goes, the only part I really liked was Mitsuko Baisho as Oka, she was very good. [/list]

I think Mitsuko Baisho is the only reason to watch Tokyo Tower.

She's had a long exceptional career as an actress, and when you consider her older sister is Chieko Baisho, it's hard to think of another pair of siblings in the Japanese acting profession who have had such distinguished careers. (Masahiko Tsugawa and his brother Hiroyuki Nagato may come close)

It's a shame that in mainstream dorama in recent years, you almost never find this kind of meaty role for actresses over 50.

Ageism unfortunately is alive and well in the world of dorama.

The one exception is in Asadora where a significant number of roles call for actors and actresses over 40. And I guess that's one reason I like watching them.

Taiga dramas used to be like that as well, but in recent years the proliferation of pretty boy and girl posters posing as actors in Taiga series has changed that landscape.

Maybe you should post this in the recommendations thread and specify what types of dramas you're looking for or what type of dramas you don't like so we can help you find something good. Smile

And I second Ashita no Kita Yoshio. Hopefully you like that one if you decide to check it out.

O no! Is Atsuhime in the same category as Yoshitsune?! I was gonna start it soon. Doh!

In the meantime, I'm starting Zettai Kareshi to get my sister off my back. She really liked it and she really wants me to see it.

I thought it was a fun, light-hearted drama with hilarious moments. If you don't expect anything, I think you'll enjoy it. Smile

Just my hard-line opinion.

I look for Taigas to be both entertaining and interesting historically, whereas others just look for entertainment (eye candy).

Didn't Yoshitsune have Tackey in it?? bleh

There's not really any young fruityboys in Atsu-hime (yet, anyway) in fact the only younger actors that get much screen time are Miyazaki Aoi and Eita. It's a bit hard to have a drama about a princess without a young actress Bleah

It is. There's, like, 160 episodes. But as it's an asadora the episodes are only 15 minutes or so long. The version I have has 4 episodes to a disc (thanks Wyn-chan / Ralph!) so i'm up to episode 48 Smile

Ralph authored, I just copied them for you. Big Grin

So since I'm watching Zettai Karashi with my sis, I won't be able to watch it during my nighttime marathons. So I think I'll do what I rarely do, and start another one at the same time. I'm torn between Over Time and Lovely Complex.

>>checks details of each<<

Watched the first episode of Galileo and I found it to be decent. I just hope to see more creative cases as the show goes on. Beautiful Life, unfortunately, is still not done being downloaded. So depending on which one finishes first I'll watch that next, or the second episode of Code Blue.

I have no doubt you will like it. As others have mentioned it's more like an asadora which is why I like it since I can't stand taigas normally. Naturally the taiga purists will dis it to no end since they only want dirty faced grunting close-ups men sitting around in dark rooms. and Aoi chan is hardly in that category. Twisted

Just give yourself about 4 episodes to get past the endless introduction of characters that fall quickly by the wayside. Then the real story begins.
It is very charming and light. Aoi is slightly reminiscent of Eri and Konoja.

yay for Atsu hime and may there be many more like this.....

You just had your Sorimachi fix with Beach Boys so I'd say go with the other one.
Edit: I just realized Sorimachi's in Love Complex also. Doh!
