Code Blue's ratings drop to 16%!
The Thursday night FujiTV dorama starring Yamapi, Toda Erika and Aragaki Yui raked in 21.2% in viewer's ratings for its first episode, but its second episode saw a fall in ratings to 16%. Netizens online have been blaming the drop on a "mis-cast" of characters, saying that the actors and actresses are too young.
In reality, it is said that the flight doctor cadets that they are playing are supposed to be in their late 20s or 30s, and that the actors have not been able to portray that level of maturity. (Toda Erika is 19, Aragaki Yui 20 and Yamapi 23.)
There were also complaints about Aragaki Yui's hairstyle; her fringe is said to be a nuisance for any real doctor trying to do his/her job.

Looks like the casting director blew this job.

I also thought that was the biggest flaw going into this drama. Victims must be thinking "What the hell is this young person doing in cosplay trying to save me?"
I'm trying my hardest to look past how young they are while watching this drama but it's very difficult!

That's true, but in a medical drama I would like to see more realism. I'm still very interested in this one so I'll give it another glance.

Well, like it was mentioned to BMW in an above post... to each his own.

Like I said last week, the sharp drop in ratings is pretty much expected. 5+% drop is bad, but after watching that disastrous ep1, it shouldn't be a surprise to any experienced viewer.
As a dorama, I think the excessive immaturity in first few episodes is necessary to maximize the potential for character development. To me it seems, this is intended rather than miscast at this point. If they still aren't convincing in later episodes though... that's when finger pointing should begin I think Gakky is falling apart, but otherwise, the main cast is doing fine so far IMO.
The 'mature' supporting cast is very strong for this series. Couple of flaws in main cast shouldn't be too much of a problem.
And I agree about Gakky's hairstyle. Not only it's in the way of operations, it's not even attractive. The stylist messed it up hard
Ep2, was actually above expectation for me. The story has a better flow, and although everyone's still on different cases, they are starting to interact a bit more. If they keep it up, it might actually turn into a decent series

Yup.
People sorta wander in on the first episode to check it out... Browsing... Like buying a car... If they're interested, they'll come back, else it's on to another dealership.

I think the premise of the show would've made more sense for the cast had this group of actors had ended up being high school students who were doing an internship before entering into college (ie sorta like Ushi Ni Negai Wo, but at the beginning of their college career versus the end).
Fact is, it really WAS a bad idea to think that these characters, despite the supposed elitist position of 'Flight Doctor' were sometimes so moronic that they couldn't perform basic procedures that would be required to even graduate.
Hell, another story idea if they really wanted the Yamapi in the show would be give him a Doogie Howser complex and let him be some sort of child prodigy that wants nothing more than to be a flight doctor (like I'm sure they're going to do ANYWAYS ). Then you can have actors like Yanagiba Toshiro (who is one of the few redeeming actors in this show, go Muroi-san! ) be the one to bring him back down to earth with a full set of other flight doctors.
Sure, it kills off the other 3 supporting actors in their current roles, but you could put them anywhere else in the hospital and it'd be fine. I can easily see a Nurse, an Intern, and a Pediatrician be made out of those three, and it wouldn't hurt them any more or less than what they already are (not to mention they're already acting that way, they just happen to have the moniker of 'doctor' on their name as well).
We'll see how it keeps going though.

I agree! It's so flat and dull! Erika's hair looks so beautiful in comparison. Poor Gakky.
The article definitely made me LOL. _________________

Maybe I don't watch dramas to critically; but I've seen worse acting, worse story and for me, as long it's entertaining in the way it's supposed to do, I'm satisfied and I don't care if it's realistic or has some... how to say >_> *lacking english words* XD... logical mistakes? ... (not quite...) |
Don't get me wrong, I still think it's an entertaining show and I will continue to watch it, but I can definitely make the connection that the actors are being stretched to be much older than they really are. It's almost as bad as trying to believe that Ishihara Satomi is actually in her 30s in Puzzle! (though it'll never really be that bad )
I will say this however: I can only push my suspension of belief only so far. I'll leave it at that.
