Is there a good and quick program to burn data discs? I'm currently using Nero and I dunno if it's my shitty ancient computer or not, but it looks like burning one data disc will take me one hour to do and I got at least 10-20 to burn. Sweat

Uh, why are you using your ancient computer to burn discs?

You can only burn discs as fast as your burner and media will allow... If it's taking an hour you must be burning your discs at like 1x or something... Shake Head

I am using the ancient computer because my new laptop is usually being used to do other things. Plus, the old laptop's drive is really screwed up (maybe from overusage?) and I'm kind of afraid of doing the same thing to the new one by overusing that drive. I know this slight paranoia doesn't make sense. Sweat Also, I don't have Nero or any other burning software on the new laptop yet.

As for the burn speed, I noticed that it was 16x, so that's definitely not the case. If worse comes to worse, I'll probably just use the new one to burn stuff too.

Can't you install Nero on the new laptop?

If your burner's speed is 16x and your media is 16x, I can't see how it can take an hour to burn a disc... Was it always this slow at burning discs?

You've gotta have something set up wrong... Sweat

I don't remember how quick it was for burning data discs. Though it's different, copying and burning regular discs (dramas and such) is pretty quick (ranges from 7-12 minutes each way, depending on the size).

No clue on how to set it up to make the data burning speedier. Sweat

I'm going to take a wild guess: that the computer is ancient enough where it's not fast enough to transfer the data to the drive as fast as the disc is being written.

Hmm.. I think you got a point there. The data that I'm trying to burn to disc is on an external hard drive. I might as well download Nero to my new laptop and save me the wait game that I'm playing with the ancient computer. Thanks guys! Big Grin

Sounds like my wild guess was completely off Sweat If burning dramas only take 7-12 minutes, data shouldn't be any different, since dramas are essentially just bits of data themselves.

Where's the copy you installed on your old laptop?

You can't make it any faster than what the burner and/or disc can do...

An 8x disc and burn speed will pretty much burn a disc in about 7-9 minutes no matter what PC you use... About double that time if you enable data verification.

No, I think your guess is right. I usually save the drama stuff directly on to the D drive, not on the external HD, which is why it's quick. If I put it on the external, it would take an hour. I found that out the hard way once. Sweat

I have no idea. Sweat You're looking at 3+ years ago and hell if I can find something one month ago. Shameful Cry

And your old PC probably isn't using USB 2.0.... Shake Head

Take you old PC and throw it in the trash... If you're going to baby the new lappy, there was no point in buying it, ne?

I still think the old PC is still fine for certain things like surfing the internet (I'm on that old ancient one now Mr Green) and for copying dramas while I'm on the new one. I really like having 2 computers so I can have something to use while I'm doing copying, DVD authoring, etc.

Then you shouldn't be burning discs with the old lappy.

Um, I don't. I rarely use that now that I got the new one.

You should just use your new PC. Sweat

I mentioned earlier that when I'm doing DVD authoring with the new laptop, I like being able to copy DVDs with the ancient PC. I'm not talking about the old laptop at all.
