I was thinking the same thing. I just watched the first episode and it kinda reminded me of GTO. Honestly though, I found it rather enjoyable and I was feeling rather good at the end. If you do intend to watch, leave your GTO comparisons at the door or else you'll end up ripping this one apart. If anyting, it's always fun to watch Kitagawa Keiko grimace. Nice cover song of Frankie Valli's "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" by UZ.

Not having seen GTO, I have no reference...
Though I have seen the first Gokusen, which wasn't much of a classroom drama at all, but more of a JE vehicle (which should've been run off the road before 2 and 3 appeared)...

Really? I'm surprised you've never seen it. I thought GTO was the shiznit and every once in a while I'll rewatch it. You'll probably will have a laugh of nerdy Oguri Shun in the series. Anyway, Taiyo to Umi no Kyoshitsu couldn't be any worse than Gokusucks.

Yet another classroom drama?
And cori-chan's fave, Oda Yuji??
Pass.
I usually hate classroom dramas and have an intense dislike for Oda Yuji, but Kohinata Fumiyo's in it. And Toda Keiko too, so I'll give this a shot. _________________

I personally like school drama, but I don't know... Oda Yuuji is a really horrible actor IMO, I drop almost all his drama after first episode. And the student cast is...
Well, I guess I should watch the first episode before complaining

Indeed, this drama is in the prime time slot for Fuji TV so alot of people will end up watching the first episode purely based on that. Previous dramas in the slot include Change and Galileo which were both 20+, there are also a few that did not end up faring well(First Kiss and Suppli for example) that had strong starts but then ratings dropped big time after the first couple episodes due to the quality of the drama itself.

Dunno... looks like the tried and true School Drama + Fruityboys Formula. No matter how old the formula is they keep recycling it, hoping for Gokusen 3 type ratings no doubt.
