Finished the second epi of Proposal Daisaucks. YamaPi, although still completely adorable, is really annoying in this drama. His acting his lame, his poses are lame, and his character is lame. I get pissed off just looking at him, and Masami isn't helping any. I have the feeling each episode will follow the same routine, and I'm already tired of it. O well. On to epi 3. _________________
It sounded like fun. At least, to me. 13 episodes, all around a half hour long. A comic horror series where they spend their time poking fun at J-Horror movies. You know... the girl ghost with her hair covering her face is a regular. The little boy ghost with the big black eyes, and the powder white skin is a regular. And every week this family full of mystics, and mediums has to deal with the wackiness of living in a house filled with ghosts and monsters, and aliens.
Turns out... it's pretty cheap and cheesy. It's not well written at all. And I basically use to to fill time at the shop when I'm waiting for a phone call, or for paint to dry.
Each episode is 20 minutes long. And I still find myself fast forwarding through it.
The review at imdb said it reminded the reviewer of the "Adams Family". The reviewer was either high, or being paid by the company that made the show.
The only thing that interests me is that they made the show to be screened in theaters, rather than TV. I guess they were used as shorts to be seen before the main feature. _________________
That was a fun little rant. I might have to look for these Toppo.. I too am pretty underwhelmed with Pocky. I had to try them once - but they are wrong about the Men's Pocky being exactly the same - it is dark chocolate (really lousy dark chocolate, perhaps, but dark chocolate none-the-less) _________________

Finished watching Joshi Deka. A dorama that needed a lot better direction in both script and execution. Did a lot of fastforwarding on this one.
Not even in the same universe of a really good cop series like Aibou and of course, the king of them all, Odoru Daisousasen which, as I think about it, is less a cop show than a character show.
Anyway, after watching Joshi Deka I asked myself the same question that I find myself always asking after finishing a Yukie Nakama series: Just how good an actress is she?
Yes, she's attractive and has an engaging on-screen personality.
Yes, she's the highest paid actress currently working in Japan.
Yes, she's been in some popular (but not necessarily quality) dorama.
But after watching this series, I have to again say that no, I don't believe she's in the top echelon of actresses--the best half dozen or so-- working in dorama.
She's competent. Very competent. But it's a large chasm that separates the very competent from the very good.
To be fair, she's not even 30 yet, so there's plenty of time for her to become very good. Picking good scripts would help, although unfortunately, there's been a huge paucity of them in recent years in dorama.

Re: Joshi Deka and Nakama.
We're on the same page, shin2.
It occured to me half way through the show that this was probably a series, a character, written with Fukada Kyoko rather than Nakama Yuki in mind.
As for Nakama... she flunks my 20 pound test. That being -- would I still think she was a good actress if she was 20 pounds heavier.
Honestly... no. I like to watch Nakama shows because I think she's beautiful. But that's about it. (She's not a stridently bad actress -- Fukada -- but she's nowhere near the same ball park as Yamaguchi Tomoko, Tanaka Misako, Nakatani Miki, or Maki Yoko, just to name a few.)
But that's not such a bad thing. As I wrote this, I remebered Peter O'Toole's best line from "My Favorite Year".
His character is doing a live TV show. Everything is going wrong on stage. The writers and stage manager are trying to force him to go out on stage saying, "You're an actor! Act!" To which O'Toole responds... "Actor? I'm not an actor. I'm a Movie Star!.
Yuki is more star than actress. But what the heck. Right now, her star is pretty bright. _________________
