But you shouldn't be blinded because you're an American, either.
Maybe that Details article might end up being considered "hate" material (in the eyes of the law), especially with all these complaints.
If the piece ends up shown as expression covered under his First Amendment rights, he's entitled to his opinion as an American as much as some folks think some Americans sound dumb saying Japanese words (and those folks aren't "blind" either?).
I DON'T like what that Details item says; I wanna be first in line to say it. But, if those with opinions that veer off the rest of the general public's own words and expressions are censored (and I'm talking about opinions covered under the First Amendment), we'll never know who the bums are, regardless of whether their expression(s) are viewed as the aforementioned "hate" speech under the law or not (in the case of "not," well, those of us -- who have similarly expressed our opinion to media such as Details magazine -- are many and, in terms of potential subscribers, financially, and not legally, is where they might end up hurting). And if THEY'RE censored, we -- whose opinions are sound, surely, all the time, 24 hours a day -- are next. Count on it.
I refuse to be embarrassed to be an American.

I don't see this as a first amendment issue, it seems to me that people are more interested in censuring them than censoring them

Hey, FierceStriker -- I like you, but watch the comments on Americans. Don't generalize Americans just because of one magazine piece.
You know, I don't understand the bashing. Other countries have been around for thousands of years; it's only when the U.S. -- a nation that's been around for little less than 300 years old -- that the automobile, and air travel, and computers, television, FREE SPEECH, space exploration, and other great things came about.
So much for a free market system, I guess.
I'm one American who refuses to be embarrassed to be an American.
I did not mean to crush all the Americans with my rage-infused sentences. When I said stupid Americans, I was talking about the general public who don't know how many states there are in the U.S. and have never left their birth place. You know what I am talking about. Hey I live in New York city and have been in America for a long time too. I like the country as much as you do that's why I was so infuriated by that kind of crap coming out of "my place" - it's like an angry parent beating his child because of love. I am very much for cleansing America and getting rid of shameful waste of space such as the writer of that article and keeping other respectable American's life more, well, respectable. To use you words, I am one Asian-American who refuses to be embarrassed with the American part, BUT will not let the Asian part be abused either.

I am embarrassed to be an American some the time. But such are the perils of living in this country that seems to be in the spotlight all the time. Although I have frequently been embarrassed to be an American, overall I am still proud to be an American.
I don't know if people want to censor this piece as much as express outrage and surprise that such a thing, in this day and age, could still be published in a major(?) magazine.
The damage has been done, but we should hold the magazine accountable for their actions. Articles like this get published due to ignorance. Sad, but true. Unless this ignorance can be corrected, we'll unfortunately be confronted with the same material all over again... _________________

But some of you act as if America is the only country with racists in it.
Well, that's because we live in the U.S. (most of us were either born here or have been here for a long time) and, like I said, consider it our home, and it is very painful to see something as ignorant and primitive as that coming out of a major magazine from "home."

Racism is everywhere. Doesn't matter which country you go to, you'll still find it in some type of form. Unfortunate, yeah.
Yeah, it's unfortunate, but in America there actually is dialogue because we live in such a multicultural environment. In more monocultural environments like Japan, China, etc., there is lots of racism that isn't seen as racism. Huge negative stereotypes of other people because the majority of the population doesn't know any better... _________________

Although that is true, many people are still ignorant or just not "educated" about the 'race issue' and thus, racism (in some form) results. (IMO) In cases such as these, I think we should educate them rather than making the "he/she's a racist" and drill them for it.
But as far as "wanting" to be a racist, that's a whole different issue that I don't want to even get started on.

Yeah. Unfortunately true. But at least Japan is opening up a little towards acceptance. _________________
asian-americans themselves can't escape from harboring racists thoughts eh?
i remember, when i felt that asian-americans were real idiots, when i overheard a group of them dissing asian foreign students, or new immigrants. Talking about how those FOBs have to integrate, talk american.. blah blah....
I was very annoyed at how they put it, you seriously cannot expect the new immigrants and foreign students to integrate, mostly, english was NOT their main language, and coming into a completely new place takes alot of effort. And most of the time, the parents do it for the sake of their children and those asian-americans should also remember that their parents and above were once like that and did it for a brighter future for them.
anyway.... its just a comment.. this comment does not flame all. it only flames those people I saw.
who here is an asian-american.. and does not have a asian name? so your name would sound like... Peter Sean Chen.
