Changed my mind. Utahime would have made 3 of Aibu's dramas in a row. decided to take a break. While casting about for something else to watch, ran across Omiai Kekkonhttp://jdorama.com/drama.296.htm
I've only watched the first episode but seems pretty good. Obviously this is a vehicle for Matsu and so far she hasn't disappointed. We'll see if this holds up for 11 episodes.

There's a strange filmic device going on in this drama...whenever you have people talking across a table in the foreground, there's usually something odd going on in the background...keep an eye out for it... _________________

In Utahime also, some scenes inside the in cinema feel just a little bit odd. It's almost as if that they are directed, acted and even sound like a stage play that has been filmed for TV.
It took me about 3-4 episodes until I "got" Utahime, but I'm glad I stuck with it as now I'm enjoying it immensely.

Omiai Kekkon is one of my favorites.
I became a Matsu fan watching that show, and to this day, as far as I'm concerned, she can do no wrong.
I was struggling to think of dramas to download, I think I will try that too.
Just finished LIFE.
I thought the first 4 episodes were terrific. It really delves into human nature/minds and shows the emotions of those involved. But after that, even though it was satisfying to see Ayumu fighting back and getting stronger, I thought the rest of the series didn't add a lot of insights, apart from the nature of bullying... There were unrealistic parts, and I thought the most difficult stage was quickly covered, but overall, this was quite a serious and realistic look into bullying, I would imagine. It was worth watching.
Kitano Kie was great. She really showed Ayumu's inner strength and insecurities with her eyes. I thought Fukuda Saki showed a lot of talent from other dramas, and here, she was not as good as I expected(given that she won her sole award so far in LIFE). She was still very good, perhaps her role was a bit limited.

I agree with Geez & Tu-kun. Omiai Kekkon is one of the better dramas out there. The supporting cast, in particular, is hilarious.

I tried watching the first two episodes and stopped because I got distracted by other dramas. I think I'll try watching it again. That, and Tiger & Dragon.
On topic: Watched episode 9 of Yasuko to Kenji. I'm really liking this drama a lot. I hope to finish it today. _________________

GASP! Girl, screw Utahime! you have to watch T&D!!!
On Topic: Alrighty, so episode 5 of Kita no Kuni Kara. I think I finally got the title right lol
You know what I love about these dramas. The slow, progressive ways in which the characters develop. Can't get any more real than that. _________________

Is it that good? I guess it takes a while to get into because I was a bit bored from watching the special. I'll give it another go once I finish the invisible queue that I have. Or when I'm in the mood, which is how I seem to watch dramas these days..

At least it didn't take you the whole series to remember the title like it did me and Odoru Daisousasen (I *still* dont know if I got it right. ) And yeah, Kita no Kuni kara is a wonderful drama. Glad you're enjoying it.
On topic: Finished Yasuko to Kenji. Fun light-hearted comedy and I enjoyed it a lot. Hirosue Ryoko was really pretty in this drama (quite unusual, imo) and I thought she was the star of the show. She reminds me of the "cori/dori" stuff that Geez mentioned earlier. Anyway, this gets an 8 1/2 of 10 from me. _________________

It IS that good!!!...Glad you watched the special first, because unlike most specials, it came before the drama, and you'd be very confused if you hadn't seen it before you watched the drama! _________________

While waiting for download to finish (or internet to work), I watched the first episode of Gonzo, and Tiger and Dragon. Enjoyed both a lot. Great storytelling with Tiger and Dragon. I really like how the Rakugo story is interwoven into the drama itself.

Yeah, I read around that you're supposed to watch the special first, so that's what I did. I really have to try watching it again since so many people like this show.
On topic: First episode of Mop Girl (thanks beemie! ). Seems interesting so far, so I'll probably breeze through it. _________________

Bus Stop: Current series of the week at d-addicts. Romance about a idealistic bus driver and a proud office lady. Nothing very original, but it is well written and has engaging performances by the leads. It also helps that Iijima Naoko and Uchiyama Rina are both incredibly easy on the eye.
Aoi Tori: The first two episodes are possibly the slowest j-drama I've ever seen, but it's totally compelling. It's almost like an extended art house film. It's also interesting to see Natsukawa Yui in an early role.

Was it well-written? I remember thinking that it was just an average drama. Then again, I wasn't able to watch the last couple episodes, so it might have been better than I thought. Maybe I should try to watch it again.

I felt that this was too slow for me and I don't understand why so many people liked it. Still, I really liked Shiro's character in this one. He looked so dashing at times.

Yeah, they're all real good. The thing that bothers me is, except for the flying Kubozuka, I've never seen any of those actors in anything else.
I saw Imai Masayuki in a couple of dramas before as a gangster type (with an awesome way of talking, I might add), so to see him as a lovesick wimp was amusing as hell. Also, Kawahara Ayako in Shuumatsukon, but she pretty much played the same type of character. I'm pretty sure at the time that I watched Omiai, I haven't seen most of the other actors, which can be a good thing since you don't have preconceived images of them.
On topic: Watched episode 2 of Mop Girl last night. I've been watching these non-continuous dramas that end within the episode recently and I really like them because I don't feel like I HAVE to watch the next episode right away. _________________

I really liked the first half of Aoi Tori. After a certain point (I think everyone who watched it knows what I'm talking about) it went downhill. Just trying too hard and it didn't really work. Still, I thought overall it was good.
I just posted this in my LJ but I think everyone here should know how much of a masochist I am too:
I'm trying to actually watch Gokusen 3 all the way through when I had only seen the first two episodes before. Why? I don't know. The first season was good and funny. And it had some good-looking students in it. The second season wasn't that great but it was passable and also had good-looking students. This one.... doesn't. The two main kids, Takaki Yuuya and Miura Haruma, are the best but Yuuya looks way too young and Haruma is too pretty-boy with a horrible hairstyle. And they can't act, of course. The other guys... some of them are downright fugly. There are some really funny-looking ones. One kid not only has these big fish lips but also seems to be wearing some sort of lipstick/gloss. Dude, they're already rivaling Angelina Jolie's, why the makeup too? Seriously, what was up with the makeup artists and stylists for this show? Why did they make a third season, anyway? Why am I watching it? _________________
