Yeah, those asian americans are ignorant too.

It's kind of stupid too when they're dissing the immigrant asians when they themselves are asians. Rolling eyes

Yeah. Unfortunately true. But at least Japan is opening up a little towards acceptance.

How? Give some examples.

Well for one, white people aren't totally discriminated against as much as before. Japanese don't make that big a deal when their daughter brings home a white guy and vice versa. I'm not saying that it's totally resolved, but compared to their thinking before, I'd say it's a step forward.
On the other hand, black people still bite the bullet when it comes to discrimination. Unfortunately.

But that's what I mean by a little. They aren't even close to acceptance just yet. But hey, every step counts. Even if it is baby steps and what not. Progress is progress.

Do you think this has a lesser or greater impact than that Details piece?

A greater impact of course. *duh*

Doesn't matter what I think though. Discrimination is discrimination. All I'm trying to say is that it's everywhere. Doesn't matter where you go, you'll find it in some form. That was my main point.
Yeah, it's unfortunate, but what can you do? It will never go away competely. But at least there are countries who do have some progress.

What point are you trying to prove to me?

just wanted to say....

asian-americans themselves can't escape from harboring racists thoughts eh?

i remember, when i felt that asian-americans were real idiots, when i overheard a group of them dissing asian foreign students, or new immigrants. Talking about how those FOBs have to integrate, talk american.. blah blah....

I was very annoyed at how they put it, you seriously cannot expect the new immigrants and foreign students to integrate, mostly, english was NOT their main language, and coming into a completely new place takes alot of effort. And most of the time, the parents do it for the sake of their children and those asian-americans should also remember that their parents and above were once like that and did it for a brighter future for them.

anyway.... its just a comment.. this comment does not flame all. it only flames those people I saw. Beaten

who here is an asian-american.. and does not have a asian name? so your name would sound like... Peter Sean Chen.

I think we might've discussed this in another thread, or maybe it was a different forum altogether...my mind isn't quite what it used to be...

There was a whole discussion about how some asian americans view "FOBs" as giving them a bad name, and 'destroying the work asian americans have done.'

Of course, these are the same people who can't seem to understand that just a generation or two ago their parents were in the same boat (no pun intended).

Exactly. How ignorant can people get?
And that's what really peeves me on this issue....

I'm speaking of the general public. But the younger generations are open to it, but they're still the minority. Hopefully in the years to come it'll be better than how it is now.

I have two Japanese friends who have had children from black guys. They get stares and weird looks when they're in Japan. One of my friends gets asked a lot (by total strangers now) who the father of her kid is. And these aren't the "old old" people doing this. People in like their 40's or so.

A very introspective article about about today's modern asian male:

Outmarriage and Its Implications on the Asian American Psyche
Quote:
The 2000 Census revealed that the ratio of Asian women with white husbands to Asian men with white wives has increased since 1990 to an astonishing 3.08, meaning that over 75 percent of white-Asian couples feature a white husband and Asian wife. While white men fantasize about Asian women and these women choose to exclusively date white men, the fabric of Asian culture in America continues to dissolve. With each intermarried couple of the Asian wife-white husband persuasion, the culture and progress of the Asian-American will regress. The problem that exists with the interracial husband-wife disparity is significant among Asian men, but it has not appeared under the radar of societyfs watch because non-Asians rarely comprehend the impact on Asians.

Wow. Really interesting article, niko. I'm sure a lof of us Asians guys are well aware of this disparity between white male/Asian female and Asian male/white female couples already (discussed here? another thread?)... Not much you can do about it, especially in a culturally diverse country as the U.S...
