On April 10th, 2007, Nikkatsu Corporation agreed the production of two live-action movies based on two popular 1970's anime series: Yatterman and Ninja Science Team Gatchaman.
Filming for the film began on March 27, 2008, and concluded at the end of May 2008. It is directed by Takashi Miike, who will display his ability at light-hearted action films in such films as Zebraman, a family oriented superhero movie. Along with Ichi Miike has directed several other anime to live film adaptions. Character and mechanical designs will be handled by Katsuya Terada who has worked on Blood: The Last Vampire and Cutie Honey.
Unlike the anime series, film's original love story happens. With Gan-chan in the center, Ai-chan, Doronjo, and Shoko will have a "love square battle". While Shoko will work with Ai-chan and Gan-chan, she starts to like him.
Cast
* Sho Sakurai as Gan-chan
* Saki Fukuda as Ai-chan
* Chiaki Takahashi as The voice of Omotchama
* Kyoko Fukada as Doronjo
* Kendo Kobayashi as Tonzura
* Katsuhisa Namase as Boyakki
* Junpei Takiguchi as The voice of Dokurobei
* Anri Okamoto as Shoko
LOL
The Yattaman, you know the leading actor, he is an Arashi.
Hmm.. I wonder what's the typical Miike theme song? Who sang the theme for Zebraman (Aikawa Sho!), Ultraman Max, Crows Zero and Sukiyaki Western Django? I'm no Miike's film expert but I bet you know since you've watched Big Bang Love, Juvenile A (gosh..Matsuda Ryuhei & Ando Masanobu)
Its not a surprising choice for a film like Yattaman considering he did chose Sakurai to be in it. Its like a package deal. Arashi actor, hit song included, not sold separately.
ADDED: Just discovered an old teaser

school girls pile up? sprawling school girls looking smittened and a missing Doronjo
umm.. smitten by Yattaman?
can wait to see Kyoko Fukada in full costume
"Director Takashi Miike (Crows Zero, Ichi the Killer, The Great Yokai War) and Arashi singer/actor Sho Sakurai (Honey and Clover) will appear at the world premiere of their live-action film remake of the Yatterman anime at New York Comic Con on February 6. The two will travel from Japan for a 4:00 p.m. panel and the movie's 5:00 p.m. screening in New York City. Sakurai stars as Gan Takada, one half of the Yatterman superhero duo who fights the nefarious Dorombo gang. The science-fiction comedy movie will open in Japan on March 7"
Btw, the screening is free but very limited tickets. It will be on Friday 8pm and on Saturday (not sure about the time).
Autographs, a possibility of shaking hands and having the amazing Sho Sakurai smiling at you. Priceless
Oh.. Miike too. Somebody ought to have their Ichi The Killer DVD be signed.

Born in 1960, Takashi Miike served as an assistant director to legendary filmmaker Shohei Imamura and later worked primarily in the direct-to-video V-Cinema industry before the one-two punch of Audition and Dead or Alive made his name on the international film festival circuit in 2000. Turning out literally dozens of movies, television episodes and V-Cinema productions over the next few years, Miike has directed everything from the ultra-violent Ichi the Killer, to taboo-busting sex films (Visitor Q), to teen pop star vehicles (Andromedia), and even musicals (Happiness of the Katakuris) and lavish westerns (Sukiyaki Western Django). Among Miike's many Western fans are directors Quentin Tarantino, who appeared in Sukiyaki Western Django, and Eli Roth, who cast Miike as a sadistic customer in Hostel.
ABOUT SHO SAKURAI:
Starting his career with the popular talent management agency Johnny & Associates, Sho Sakurai is the designated rapper of the J-Pop band Arashi. He graduated in 2004 from Keio University with a degree in Economics and has become one of the most well-known faces promoting higher education in Japan. Every Monday he presents a special news segment on NTV's News Zero, and he was NTV's main on-air correspondent covering the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Born in 1982, he is already a veteran of seven films (including a live action adaptation of the popular manga series Honey & Clover) and over 15 television dramas, as well as two stage musicals, including West Side Story, in which he played Tony.
I heard the autograph & panel session with Sho is now not confirmed.. Hopefully they'll confirmed their schedule with Sho soon since a lot of the fans had spent money to go to NYCC. The screening tickets is very limited.. There's even a contest by ningin.com to get into the premiere. Its amazing to get the chance to see the movie months ahead from the Japan release. Good Luck to those going. Hopefully you guys will get to see Sho in person.
Tatsunako & Jstorm combined powers and did an animated PV with Arashi as 5 Time-Bokan Heroes.
Sakurai Sho as a hotter dark brown haired Yatterman
Ohno Satoshi as a mature version of Time Bokan
Aiba Masaki as the smiling Rescueman / Otasukeman
Ninomiya Kazunari as the calm Yatodettaman of Firebird
Matsumo Jun as the sexy Zenderman
I'm smelling there will be more Tatsunako/Jstorm project to come
