Re: Muri na Renai. Yui and Suzuki Sawa doing their make-up made the whole series for me. The love story, the private lives, all the other stuff was okay. But those conversations, that relationship made "Muri" one of the most enjoyable shows I've ever seen.

Yeah, their gal-pal interactions were funny, heartfelt, and rather unique from the dramas I've seen in the past... Victory! Peace!

    I am loving it.

It is deep and slow-paced. Relationships evolve or unfold.

    SUper! Thumbsup

Further evidence that older dorama (Kita no Kuni Kara was made in 1981) tend to be superior to most of what is being churned in recent years. It used to be in dorama that writing and acting were emphasized; nowadays it's mostly about fanservice and dumb-downed juvenile-quality scripts. Even when there's quality actors or actresses in the dorama, the scripts are usually banal or even worse.

Take Shinohara Ryoko as an example. Most people (myself included) would consider her to be one of the better Jdorama actresses around. I've seen her last four series--she's turned in good performances in each one--but none of those series had scripts which were intelligent, witty, or substantive.

Murai na Renai has been mentioned in recent posts. Natsukawa Yui and Suzuki Sawa, two quality actresses, are excellent in it. But the script is mediocre, as is the rest of the cast.

Wouldn't it be great if dorama's best actors and actresses have the opportunity to work with scripts commensurate with their abilities? And that those actors and actresses not be saddled with having to work with those fanboy and fangirl cutouts who currently litter the dorama landscape?

On topic: watching Kacho-san no Yakudoshi. Like Geezer, I take comfort in watching grainy video now and again.

Completely agree, I remember while watching Anego, I thought "wow, this is just an insult to pair Ryoko with Jin." It's too bad, cause there are good actors/actresses out there but they don't get a chance to showcase their abilities.

ON TOPIC: Saw the first 4 eps of Mendol, and this show is just plain bad at every level. But this is one of those shows, where it's so bad that it's funny. I crack up watching it. Get it here: http://community.livejournal.com/jdramas/2543872.html#cutid1

I've watched Minna Mukashi wa Kodomo Datta Ep. 4 and Top Sales Ep.4 in the last few days, while subbing them.

Finished Last Christmas and enjoyed it a lot. A bit cheesy at times, but it worked for me. It's been a while since I've enjoyed the dialogue of a dorama this much. Plus, characters actually acting like rational adults, awesome! Thumbsup

Also picked up one of my many unfinished doramas and watched up to episode 8 of Aoi Tori. The story is a bit too melodramatic and takes itself a bit too seriously for my tastes, but there are other things I'm enjoying. Like the pacing, and how subtle the storytelling is despite the melodrama of the story itself, and the use of the gorgeous scenery to help create the atmosphere. I'm liking how the story is told more than the actual story, I guess.

Finish Zettai Kareshi and now continue with Daisuki, episode 7. Saki Aibu is so adorable as always, and her hair style reminds me a lot of Juri in Nodame hehe

That she is. If you ever want to watch what I thought was a truly awful drama in which she was the only redeeming reason for watching it, check out this:http://www.jdorama.com/drama.1030.htm

I'm sure Geez has seen it: I hardsubbed the thing for him a ways back...

But yeah, Uchida's character had a lovable feistiness and vulnerability. Victory! Peace!

O.K. finished Koori no Sekai and Geez was right, this had to have one of the most implausible endings ever. I notice it came out in 1999 the same year as Chippi Rabu another drama I liked up until near the end. Must have been something in the water that year. Shake Head

Just finished watching Scandal. Thanks to marspeach for subbing it. At first I wasn't sure I was going to like it because of the whole housewives theme, but I ended up enjoying the series.

Finished Joshi Deka! thanks to some copious usage of the fast-forward button... Sweat

A disappointing ending (not surprised) to a REALLY disappointing and frustrating crime drama... In a lot of respects, this was even worse than Kirakira, if you can believe that... bleh

    I give it a 3/10.

I wasted four DVD-Rs on this drama. Grumble

    I think I gave it a 6 or a 7. Didn't hate it, but it wasn't good.

Starting ep 4 of Wedding Planner.

It's pretty sad. As for me, in order to start the New Year off on a positive note, I'm watching Medaka (again w00t! )
