Yeah, I know... But since I burned the discs, I figured I should give 'em a try anyways...

Neither did we... til we watched them.
Okay, that might have sounded snarky.
Thing is... there's a whole wealth of Japanese TV out there from before the late '90s. But it was only in the late '90s that file sharing became common.
There's an awful lot of TV out there (pre 1990) that the folks outside of Japan have never seen.
But I expect it'll surface soon. Much the same way that tons of old old, really old American TV shows are turning up on DVD these days. _________________ Manga is to Literature

But they won't have English subs... And I wouldn't bet any of the fansub groups are gonna sub "ancient" dramas...

I finished it yesterday. It was quite lovely, and of course The perfect coating of the "icing on the top". _________________

Anybody recommend me some good dramas that are school/friendship/love related?
Or anything that is really cute/teaches life lessons? (lol weird request but I love dramas that have self narration like Nobuta wo Produce)
I've watched many but really looking forward to ones that I have yet not seen. (I have watched almost all of the dramas from Mysoju) _________________ Dramas ( :

I'm all for subbing older dramas. The problem is finding raws that are of good quality.

You got that right. You would have to rely on someone who had captured them on VHS tape and transferred to digital format

Slow?
The pacing seemed okay to me... Though I found Natsukawa Yui's loser boyfriend to be very irritating.

I started "Nanase Futatabi" with high hopes.

But it all just sort of petered out to a big ho-hum, who cares, by the end.
|
I've just finished it, and this pretty much mirrors my feelings. The script and acting were generally rotten, but in the initial episodes the plot and pacing kept you watching. But once it got beyond the half way point you just didn't care anymore. It was just about worth the effort to finish. It's like a Japanese version of Heroes, with about a tenth of the budget, a tenth of the cast but ten times the cohesion.

I'm gonna start "Scandal" next. The ladies who star in this one may not have flawless, seemingly air brushed faces anymore. But at least when these grown-ups are asked to convey some strong emotion the viewer (me) doesn't have to wince and hit the FF button... or just laugh out loud.
It should make a change from "Nanase".
|
Funnily enough, I've also just started to watch this. I've only seen two episodes, but it's looking good so far. It's still in the setting up stage, but things are already getting interesting, and the cast is good, including the ubiquitous Kohinata Fumiyo.
I've also finally finished Shukan Maki Yoko. Episodes 1, 7, 9 and 11 where my favourites.

You can bet they won't be very good quality... My copy of Tokyo Elevator Girl can attest to that.
