If I recall isn't there malware/spyware that supposedly has that keystroke-recording capability? Sweat

Yes, there is plenty of spyware out there that logs keystrokes, but this is a feature of Windows 7, not something that is downloaded and installed. I tried out the feature and it looks like it does not record keystrokes, just mouse clicks. The recorder does not access any Internet ports, it merely records your clicks, takes screenshots and saves it as a MHTML file.

For those who want to take a look at a sample here's the link to the file:

http://www.istartedsomething.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/psr.mht

The only knock on it as that MHTML files can only be viewed with Internet Explorer.

Edit: Here's my test run. What I did was just put in a random name and password for GMail to see if any keystrokes were recorded. It's 1.9MB, so it might take a while to load up for slower connections. Again, it can only be viewed with IE.

Not surprised.

Since I use Firefox, that renders this feature useless to me.

You're probably not the only one who feels that way. Given security issues with IE, I'm surprised Microsoft decided to make IE the only choice to view the reports. I see no qualms with using IE from time to time when I really need to, but I can't blame anyone for avoiding IE altogether.

Yeah, I just have IE6 and haven't even bothered with upgrading to IE7.

Yes, but it's a beta version of IE8. Make of that as you will, but I've used it a few times. I think IE7 and 8 are much better in the security department than IE6 was, though Firefox remains my #1 browser. Anyhow, I think if you know what you're doing, and not going to questionable sites or downloading stuff without checking for virus or spyware, IE isn't that bad really.

I gave the MHTML files a try with the Opera browser (yes, I run three browsers) and am happy to report that it works just fine. Only problem, Opera just isn't as prominent as Firefox and Internet Explorer are.

I think the Problem Steps Recorder feature is a great addition to Windows, but Microsoft really needs to use a standard HTML format. Sure, IE has a large user base, but not everyone wants to use IE, and not everyone knows about Opera.

I thought that for a long time, but with all those nice add-ons that Firefox has available, IE gets trumped. Victory! Peace!

Yep, when it comes to add-ons, Firefox owns.

I accidentally upgraded to FF3 at work the other day - it's great! No problems at all.

Nope. But I can live with it for now. The ones I use all the time (Rikaichan / Moji & various web dev ones) all work Thumbsup

I didn't switch over until they stopped supporting FF2 and the Orbit theme was available for FF3. Victory! Peace!

I've been using Fedora 10 most of the day and I think I'm starting to get the hang of it, at least basic stuff. I've managed to install Openoffice so I have some word processor to work with, but having trouble installing some fonts. The Nvidia drivers are proving to be a hassle as well. Grumble

If anyone owns a Seagate Barracuda drive (1TB in particular), you'd better begin backing up ASAP.

Hmm.

Maybe it was a good thing that I didn't buy that 500GB Seagate. Sweat

It's a very good thing you didn't buy it, because the story gets even better:
