 I have come to accept that my favourite dramas are the ones between the 8% and 13% range with the exceptional high flyer -> Trick 1, Gonzo, Seigi no mikata, Scandal, Kisarazu's cats eyes, Golden Bowl etc

I agree however, high ratings doesn't necessarily mean quality show. Love Shuffle and Akai Ito I feel deserve more credit.

With the exception of Love Shuffle (so far pretty good but not great), yes, IMHO they're either mediocre or quite bad.
Kami no Shizuku is based on a manga (basically an encyclopedia on wine) which is very popular in Japan/Korea/Taiwan/Hong Kong; it's a pity the drama bastardized it.
Triangle has complicated plot twists but no compelling drama; Kiina looks like a female clone of Galileo w/ ho-hum mysteries (the Galileo movie Yougisha X no Kenshin is quite entertaining BTW).

None of them just stand out well enough to warrant any kind of good ratings really. That's not to say they're not enjoyable (I like Rescue, but it's doomed on that Saturday night slot), it's just that there aren't any shows that leap out and make you want to watch it again and again afterwards. Hopefully the Spring season will bring something stronger to the table!
I personally think 2008 as a whole was a disappointment as well (even the better shows had pretty lame finishes), but hopefully we'll see something good come around this year...one can only hope!
