i just want to correct one of the comments here.. when jun said in the youtube trailer: "hindi ako kayo" in filipino, its proper english translation is "i am not you". so its like he's telling them (whoever they are) to stop it cos they're different people with different lives.
so there. just to clear things up. and to all filipino-haters out there, i can't blame you. we have loads of dung out here. but who doesn't right? its just a matter of discrete-ness. no one's perfect. not me, not you. just so you know, filipinos are the result of spanish-american-AND-japanese cruel invasion (read history). you can't blame its mixed culture, tradition and beliefs. given the right opportunities, we could kick butts.
im going to watch this one and see if anything goes below the belt |
Maybe you should watch it now so you'll know that it's not "Hindi ako, kayo" lol!. Plus you might wanna read the whole thread first since it is already discussed. 2 episodes are already subbed.

I had a feeling like the 1st one was a lil' intense for the starting as there was a plenty of bloody moments, though the name of its drama does sound like kind of going to make our heart feel warm. Well I can see it's because Matsujun as Bito, has sadly pulled through a lot of hard time, though.
I shed tears badly when he was totally mistaken as a bad guy. Believe he has a warm heart, as well as his good friends around. _________________ Les Gars ! I've been going back and forth with this drama a lot. Initially I was unattracted to the premise because I'm from a part of the states that generally accepts we're not living under a cultural homogeneity. But after reading about this law permitting random passport checks, and more recently, this article in the NYT http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/23/business/global/23immigrant.html ("Japan Pays Foreign Workers to go home"), I became interested.
Howeverrrrr, after two episodes, I feel this drama panders WAY too much to our sense of pity...sentimental, sentimental Too many stock characters too.
Aragaki Yui is a doll, but she doesn't really seem to be doing much acting. And I'm a bit curious--if she's been mute for a few years now, shouldn't she have picked up some sign language? Well I guess it's not needed because she can still hear and communicate in other ways.
And even though I'm an Arashi fan, I feel like Matsumoto Jun isn't right for this role. His tan looks a bit fake, and he's never really been able to shake off his idol mode to me. But I do applaud Jun for taking up this role. With such influence in Japan, maybe casting someone like Jun will make people more readily accepting?
I'm not giving up on this drama just yet though. It has some redeeming qualities. Kawaii buta

i've seen the first two episodes, and i do agree that there's a liiitle bit to much sobbing already.
but otherwise, i think it's playing out quite well, bias aside. acting wise, i can't say they're amazing, but not bad. the story's only about to get interesting (i presume) so i can't comment yet.
as for treatment, being a filipino too (yes, me too heheh ;p), at first i didn't know how to feel about the entire discrimination issue, because i felt it was exaggerated contextually for the drama. BUT then again, it IS a drama, and the situations are just reflections of prejudice that happens everyday. it exists, and in that way, it doesn't matter what nationality they decided to make matsujun.
imho. _________________ Maybe love, maybe not~
