Before the movie starts..theres a preview of Quentin Tarantino's other movie called Hero starring Jet Li..martial art stuff..and it's an all asian cast..I think he's quite fond of asian cultures.
Oh, the trailers.... The only interesting one was Hero, though I'm not a big fan of "Wire-Fu"...
Soul Plane? NOT.
Van Helsing? NOT, though I sorta like Hugh Jackman...
The Stepford Wives? NOT. A remake. Bleah. Even if it does have Nicole in it.
There were others, but I wasn't wowed, that's why I forgot 'em...

FYI on Hero
The movie is directed by Yimou Zhang, starting Jet li and Ziyi Zhang( a minor role. But she is so HOTXXX). It was released in Asia in 2002. I have the dvd myself. Quentin Tarantino had nothing to do with the production of the movie except for maybe bring it to the American audience. Maybe!!!. In my opinion, Hero is a great movie. I have included a link from IMDB about Hero. You can click on Yimou Zhang to see his other movies. I recommand most of the movies to you. However, asian critics didn't like Hero too much.

When I saw the preview, I was thinking..hmm Hero and Jet Li? I saw that somewhere before..maybe he is just bringing to America..I didn't watch the movie, so I wasn't certain.

I'm going to watch it just because it's action packed.

This film (and I see vols. 1 and 2 as one film) is terrific. POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD
-- Hhaah. All those eyeballs. Man.
-- HATTORI HANZO'S katana; man, it's gonna cut through Tarantino's flicks I guess, eh? (or am I imagining the link to the Pulp Fiction pawn shop scene). Hahah.
-- Back over at the "samurai vs. knight" thread? The answer is "GORDON LIU WINS!!!" And he does it by talking. Hhahaha. Man, his speech is ON THE MONEY, mannnnn. Samurai's (referent or otherwise) move; as much as I admire ya'll's gallantry (and, after Liu's speech, I guess gallantry is ALL it is) and style, what you gonna' do, brotha? I mean, is it gonna take DeNiro's character's own speech from Goodfellas, "you gonna' take that? You gonna' let him talk to you like that?" Hhaha.
-- Superman. Been reading comics for years and I never thought about it that way.
I love this film. I'm very selfish w/what made me happy about it. Kill Bill, vols 1 and 2 is a masterpiece (folks in Hawai'i musta' been laughing at that red and black screen -- remember, folks? KITV's "Black Belt Theatre" [or was that shown all over the place?]).

to me kill bill vol 1 was not an action movie... yes it was gory all and stuff, and the action was quite good, but it was a comedy due to the parodies... and to me it was like an action movie mocking action movies... it was also very very corny due to the music and i actually laughed very hard all the way thru the show. I guess not everyone actually viewed the movie from my viewpoint though... if viewed purely as an action movie it is only average i guess
Cant wait for vol 2 to start showing here in singapore... Its a must watch for me
"Quentin retained the distribution rights to both parts. He then revealed to me that he had already edited both volumes back together and would be premiering the complete film on the last day of the Cannes Film Festival this year! You heard it here first!"
Holy yeah! You can only hope it'll be released on DVD (which, you just know; it will. Indeed, seems like Tarantino's shot at a Criterion Collection title).
Hmmm . . . need to get in touch with my southern French contacts . . . .

Although the American "Ring" was scary, I prefer the original Japanese "Ringu". Naomi Watts is good, but she is no Nanako Matsushima
Now I heard (sorry if old news) that Sarah Michelle Geller (gasp!) will be in the American version of the Grudge (Juon).
On a side note, if Doramas were to arrive in full force to the U.S. (licensed ones) like Anime has, do you think they will add the option of a re-dubbing in English . That would be scary! I remember when anime first came to the U.S., the English dubbing was so bad.
I still watch my anime in Japanese with English Subtitles, I like it better that way.
For example, what if they hired Britney Spears to do the English voice dub of your favorite actress in a dorama? Yikes
Thanks for reminding me: before Kill Bill, Volume 2, I saw a preview of an American ripoff of Shall We Dance? with Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez.... I was ready to puke my guts out right then and there...

If I remember correctly, the director will be the same from the original, being the first time a director makes a remake of the same movie
To me, this seems like a valid "sequel." I mean, if the original director of the series is taking the helm, let's hope he keeps the same "house" and ghosts (which is what I understand will happen; keeping the "referent" that is). Sounds interesting, actually.
For Hollywood to remake Shall We Dance is just . . . dumb. The movie made itself known to general audiences in the U.S. and I think more than enough folks'll be able to do the comparison on their own. It's just a charming film on its own (Koji Yakusho and Tamiyo Kusakari own their respective roles in that film and there are few actors on the planet that can beat Naoto Takenaka, period).
The South Koreans must be the ones MOST fuming; here's a situation where Hollywood studios are gobbling up remake rights not long after their most cherished films have made the box office charts (i.e., Universal Studios for Old Boy). And they're buying their more older films too -- Queen Latifah's slated to star in two S. Korean film remakes (No Blood, No Tears and My Wife is a Gangster). Funny thing is, South Korea also has films w/enough 38th parallel issues to render it untranslatable to Hollywood screens (ah, maybe that's the key).
In conclusion . . . I'll borrow (and paraphrase in the process) something that Crichton mentioned in his novel, Rising Sun and say, Hollywood didn't make them sell. Hmph. Now THAT's irony.

I would hate to see dorama dubs. I mean anime is bearable but dorama, c'mon that's totally messed up.
Yeah, it would be totally gay. I wouldn't be suprised if the American entertainment industry resorted to that. Hell, on Spike TV they dub a Japanese athelic/sport gameshow. (Forget the name) But it's horrible.
And if that's not enough, they rename all of the original contestants and make f*ucked up noises too. (IMO) It's Pure mockery to the Japanese. Ugh, _________________

Yea, same goes with Iron Chef. Although most of the time it's just the announcers talking and you don't see them so I guess that's ok. And I'm usually paying too much attention to the food anyways except when Miho Kanno is on the show
But seeing real life doramas with voice overs, just makes me kinda of sick

Most Extreme Elimination Competition. they are shortening it to: MXC
i think its a good way to introduce more japanese culture to america. the show is pretty funny. i don't think itll be as funny if they dubbed it with the original meanings..and it would probably have been boring to watch it too. takeshi kitano is renamed Vic Romano.
also @ mazinger z:
hey! i like sarah michelle gellar! although i didn't like it when she started doing those campy scooby doo movies.
i'm a big Buffy/SMG fanatic. _________________
