Arigato Gozaimasu. It will take a lifetime to fully recover. When I say lifetime, it means the trauma it gave to my countrymen. Even my family is a victim. Here's what happened that day:
September 26, 2009, Saturday; 10am. The rain poured in Manila. Since the news said it is just a tropical storm, I didn't worry much. However, as the clock moves, I saw the water in backyard as it elevates. We started to put the important things in a high place. I started to worry because the flood slowly enters our house. At about 12nn it officially entered our house. We were still able to eat lunch by that time.
After lunch, we were watching news and saw terrible things happening outside Manila. The Marikina City is terribly flooded. People evacuated on their roofs and some with on high places are stranded on their second floor. People were crying, trying to find help, but the rescue team took some time to rescue the people.
Night time was the worst! I even felt it was already Dooms day. We had nothing to eat for dinner because we were terribly flooded. The water increased and it is already at about our waist. That is inside our house, if you go outside it's mostly about our chest. We were terribly frightened. I couldn't help myself but to cry and pray. I pity my grandmother who is in her 2nd childhood stage that day, because our beds are soaked wet, I didn't know where to place her. Luckily, a neighbor helped and putted my grandma's bed ontop of our dining table because it is the only safe place that day. We stayed on top of that dining table, the three of us. We were expecting for a rescue but no one came. We were just praying the rosary and expecting for good things to occur.
When I went out of our house to find food, what I saw are people in the center of the streets, trying to find something to feed their family too. It was terrible. Cars were stranded in the middle of the bridge. People were crying. Pity is not enough, only if could help everybody that day.

Hey, thanks for the concern. Well, that's global warming for ya, up close and personal. Our government looked like a bunch of headless chickens running around and bumping into each other, but it's a good thing the private sector (schools, churches, NGOs, media networks, individuals, etc.) as well as international aid groups stepped up. Like, really really stepped up.
soulhunter14: Wow. I'm really sorry to hear your family was affected like that. Where in Metro Manila are you? I hope the floodwaters in your home have receded by now (some parts of the city are still submerged, right?). My friend is from Provident Village = war zone. Cleanup and structural/electrical repairs may take at least 3 months. And it's terrible what happened to those villages along Laguna de Bay that got swallowed up by the lake water!
Are things over at your place more manageable now?

Ender's Girl we're almost fine now we've already recovered. Let's just pray for the safety and for the souls of the departed. They need the most things now, including donations. _________________
