Wink I thought that until we saw Gene Simmon's Family JEwels. That was the original one to hook us.
THe whole family was so bright and funny.
And recently we really enjoyed Frontier House. THough their experiment would have had more validity to us if they had stayed the winter. Grumble

By the way... while you're adding to your list, you might want to check out George Gently. A detective show set in the early to mid '60's in Northern England. It doesn't have the light comic moments of "New Tricks" or "The Last Detective". But it's certainly one of the best British Detective shows I've seen in a long while.

They've done 3 seasons so far, but sadly Netflix only has the first. It consists of three 2 hour long movies.

I've added it to my queue. Thanks for the recommendation.

Unearthing.

Thanx, GM. Big Grin

Corner Gas is one of the cleverest TV series I think I have ever watched. Fabulous lines one after another.

Victory! Peace!

Sounds ridiculous but I've become hooked on "The Sons of Anarchy"

I ignored the first season because I've never been much of a "biker" genre fan. All those idiot biker movies from the '60s and '70s did nothing but annoy me.

But I surfed across this show a little while ago, and looked at the people in it, - Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, Adam Arkin - and thought I'd give it a chance. And dang if it's not kind of addictive.

Instead of a bunch of bikers getting drunk and terrorizing a town, it's more like a south west Sopranos, without the shark skin silk suits.

They are an organized crime family. And the family has issues.

I won't go so far as to say great. But I have ordered the first season from netflix, and I can't wait to see what happens in next week's episode. And that's about as good an endorsement as I can think of for a TV show.

The ineptitude and inanity of people have been a rich source of material for clever (and not so clever) humorists ever since there have been humorists. The 1999 British Series People like Us showcases this utilizing a mock-documentary approach. An unseen but very intrusive interviewer profiles "people just like us" (12 subjects, each profile a 25-minute episode) as they go about doing their job. He follows them through a typical workday, questioning them, their colleagues, and those they do business with, and provides background info and narrative, all done in a straightforward serious manner, both on his part and on the part of his subjects. What results is one of the most hilarious programs I have ever seen. Deadpan humor may not be to everyone's taste, but it's been a long time since I laughed so often watching a TV show.

We have been totally obsessed by the 1976 BBC show The Duchess Of Duke Street. The lead actress Gemma Jones is extraordinary playing a turn of the century cook who rises from scullery maid to the owner of the most exclusive London Hotel. The production gives a thorough look, 30 episodes, into the period of time from 1900 till 1920.

BTW Im psyched I found this with the Search engine. Victory! Peace!

I watched this when it was broadcast on PBS' Masterpiece Theatre many many years ago. Excellent series. And yes, Gemma Jones was outstanding in it.

Finished watching season two of New Tricks, the outstanding British detective series. I fervently hope all the seasons will eventually make their way to DVD distribution here in the States (I read where it is up to season seven now in Great Britain with an eighth one guaranteed). It is immensely entertaining to watch the guys and gal of UCOS. Heck, I just put season one on my Netflix queue so I could watch it again.

My son borrowed the first 2 seasons of "Dexter" from a friend. I've only seen a few of each season but it's really good... different.
