Probably true for pop groups because auditions are held then the girls are trained to become 'entertainers' rather than being true musicians. For example, the girl group Perfume, they're a techno-pop group. I remember seeing an interview where one of members stated that she didn't even know what techno was and when she first heard she hated it, but still joined the group. Otherwise, she'd still be training at the talent agency.
Thanks to sites like youtube I've discovered many 'true' Japanese musicians. These are the people that play at small clubs or 'live houses'. They sell their cds themselves on the streets or at train stations. That's actually how I discovered Chatmonchy (if you look at my sig). Before Chatmonchy signed with Sony Music & did the ending for the anime Bleach, they played at small clubs and handed out their cds to people walking on the street. I admit that ever since they signed with Sony, they lost their edge (soul) and now make more pop rather than rock that caters to the masses. Can't blame them for selling out, now they are making the money they never imagined, but their music isn't the same.

I think they're alright, but I'm not that big a fan. There's something about them that remind me of those 'manufactured' girl pop groups.
Wish we had more of those 'manufactured' groups over here, music scene is just so bland, no quality or talent for so few bands, agree with Jav_sol about liking the lesser known bands, but I'd rather listen to SP, Scandal, GO!GO!7188, etc than any bands from here. Always wondered why there are so many more female rock bands from Japan, probably more than the rest of the world combined, well, seems that way to this baka.

Yeah, I've asked myself that too. I guess Japanese girls just know how to get their rock on. But all-girl rock bands are nice, I like them. Just another reason to like Japan, I guess.

Among other reasons, yes, even a lot of rock bands are led by a female singer/guitarist, maybe it's in the sushi?
Was thinking of Bugy Craxone, LOVE PSYCHEDELICO, Tokyo Jihen, MegaBabe, few others. This is a great site if you like the lesser known bands who like to rock out! http://www.rockofjapan.com/
Bugy Craxone, been around a while, I really like them.

Thanks for the link, it is a real rocker. You're not off the topic, how many threads would there be if every band had one? Way too many, so this is maybe for Stereo Pony and similar bands(?) Need to hear more from your sig band, what are your faves from them? _________________

Thanks, had heard of them but haven't really heard their songs, just downloaded the PVs of I Do It and Smilife, both good but the second is really good...gonna need to find thier CD(s).
Glad to see you also like LP, they are so good. Was surprised one time, was at my local music store, just browsing, and this CD was there! Needless to say, I pushed everyone out of the way to purchase it and run home, I was not disappointed! Very few J-Pop/Rock CDs you can find over here at a store, Puffy, Boris, Pizzicato Five, Utada, that's really it, normally have to go thru Yes Asia to get my stuff, they know me too well. Here's the LP CD cover, it's their only U.S. release.

Thanks for the SP tip, I'll look for it, YUI isn't too bad, most songs seem okay, there's just to many singers and bands out there, hard to get to know all of them well. Shame Freedom is not on that CD, I do have the PV for it, good pace is right, they played a couple shows over here, all on the West Coast, they played an acoustic show at a record shop, that would have been worth seeing!

It's tough to chose certain songs off the top of my head. I will say that my fav album was Seimeiryoku, from beginning to end, it's great songs.
Great, thanks, will hunt harder for that album, in the meantime found a site with all their PVs and some lives, heard others mention how good they were, be looking forward to it.

Quite a few videos on You Tube, I downloaded them, along with their PVs and made a nice 2 hour DVD of them. I really wish they would release more from them over here, they seem like a band who won't become hugely popular, but have a big cult following, actually someone over here told me about them, this is not in anyway any type of J-Pop/Rock city so that's a good sign others have heard about them.
