Yeah, it's a little sad. I did manage to watch A Christmas Story and Die Hard after dinner to keep my X-Mas spirit up.

Christmas decorations should always stay up until 12th Night after the holiday.

I bet no-one remembers when Christmas trees were always live and fresh. Nothing plastic existed. After all the German glass ornaments were carefully hung on the tree, the silver chains and the silver icicles were hung on the branches. The final thing on Christmas Eve was clipping on the tiny little candles a bit larger than birthday candles and they were all lit. All other lights were put out and we all admired the beautiful tree.

Why there were never house fires is a mystery. I think everyone was too sensible to have that happen, and we always loved our tree so much.

Children wrote letters to Father Christmas and tossed them up the chimney when the fire was going well about a week before the holdiay. If you were lucky it stayed up the chimney and then on Christmas morning you would get the presents you asked for. It never failed.

Funny thing is I don't ever remember snow at Christmas time in England then.

Peggy

^ Those are lovely Christmas recollections, Peggy. Smile

Funny, but whenever someone mentions "Christmas" and "England" in the same sentence, I first think of Scrooge and Tiny Tim. Mr Green Then I think of King George VI's BBC Christmas messages, esp. at the onset of the War.

All Yuletide decor carefully stowed away, now. Puppy Dog Eyes

Greetings E.G. Bow

Yes those were real old fashioned celebrations.

Did you ever see the original film in black and white of 'A Christmas Carol'

It had Alistair Sym playing Scrooge. and I think John Mills was also in the cast. It was the best version that was ever made. Hollywood tried to do one much later and it was quite ridiculous.

Ah well.
God Bless us every one.

Peg.
