Just looked up a weather map on BBC for UK. Gosh ! it's minus 1 and minus 2 from north to south. More snow and ice. I think the Arctic decided to move for the winter.
As that Flanders and Swann song went...
"Here comes Bloody January again."

Yes, the UK has been badly affected by the coldest winter for 30 years. The entire country seemed to grind to a standstill a few days ago. Hundreds of schools closed and lots of people unable to get to work. The snow seems to be thawing a little, but more is predicted, and very icy conditions. It got to -21 C in the Scottish Highlands a few days ago. Brrrr!
I am a wheelchair user and haven't been able to go out for 2 weeks due to the snow and ice (no traction for my wheels).
I am very unhappy and cannot wait for the weather to improve.

-21C...that is insane Yeah I talked to some family of mine that live in London...and they commented how the country isn't set up to deal with such severe weather...as if any place would be. Stay warm.

Yeah, it is bad. Apparently though, the record for that part of Scotland is -27 C!
London has been colder than where I live (about 120 miles north-west of London). It's been below freezing for some time where I am. I think it was like -7 C at one time.
It's true, Britain seems to cope so badly with snow and ice. We seem to fall apart at the merest hint of snow, lol. Can you believe salt and grit for the roads is being rationed now, due to shortages?

Wow, rationing the road salts...tell the authorities to start throwing Salt & Vinegar crisps on the roads to combat the ice...I am sure it will work. Quite elementary, my dear Keps.

Love the idea of throwing salted crisps on the highways.
I gues it takes about thirty years for another snow and ice winter. Seems to me there was a bad one around 1946/47. I was there then and it was life threatening., Good job the war was over at least.,
Then there was one bad winter around Christmas about thirty years later. got stuck in Heathrow. BOAC wouldn't clear their runways. We changed to American.
Mpw there is this monster. I am still waiting for email to come through from cousin via Tiscali which seems to be out of commission.

I can't even fathom people living in those temps.
Me neither. Though I suppose it is for only a part of the year.

NO! I love Salt & Vinegar crisps and will single-handedly prevent any government plans to clear the
roads with them.

Hang in there, girl!
Thanks Eve!
I must admit I did a double take when I saw pictures on the news of the weather in Florida right now. I had always been under the impression that it never got cold there!
As it is a bit less cold here, and the snow looks a bit slushy now, I thought I would try
going out today. Bad idea. My powerchair lost traction at the bottom of my path. My wheels were
just spinning. I did panic a bit, and was about to call over to a woman I saw in the distance
to help get my chair moving. Somehow though, I managed to get enough traction to get
back up my path and in the house. Not trying THAT again.
I could have wept when I saw a bit more snow and ice is forecast for the next couple of days.

What a huge drag! MAybe you could carry a little bag of aquarium gravel or sand with you for traction in a emergency?
I hate holing up so Ive been freezing my a$$ off instead. My feet are like ice cubes during my rides.
Must admit I felt really bummed when I saw we are continuing in the minuses for more nights. So much extra work to keep pipes from freezing and the horses watered. Even the pump froze up one day. Thank god my husband is so handy fixing things. Getting water to 5 horses is a hassle without water running. Have to carry buckets from the pool. House isnt designed for such cold weather so it gets really cold at night even with the heat on full blast.
Winter will NEVER be my favorite season.
But at least we dont have to use salted crisps on the road. _________________
