So how much did it run you? Did you get speakers with it?

There are no Fry's around here, but I went to one down in Texas, it was huge. They had these 'cattle' at the entrance, reminded me of a steak house here. Mr Green

The AVR-590 was $350.

Nope, didn't buy any speakers... I already have five speakers (but no sub... not necessary).

Yeah They're big on themes: the original one in Manhattan Beach has a tropical theme, Fountain Valley: Roman Empire, Burbank: motion pictures, complete with a crashed flying saucer in the entrance:

hehe

Well, when you have quality speakers you can definitely do without a sub. I probably don't need one, but I think it makes a good difference esp listening to music.

That's awesome. If you want more Fry's themes:
Palo Alto: western saloon
Sunnyvale: tribute to Silicon Valley (old location used to have circuit board theme)
San Jose: temple ala Temple of Doom
Fremont: electricity
Folsom: old western trains (including one crashing the building like the Burbank)
Las Vegas: casino with "working" slot machine at the entrance
Austin, TX: musical with a piano at the front (tribute to Austin City Limits, I think)

Stores with no theme or ones I haven't figured out: Concord, Campbell, San Diego, Sacramento

And yep. I've been to all the stores I've mentioned, including Manhattan Beach, Anaheim, and Renton, WA.

At CES last week Intel announced that future Intel Core i5 and i3 laptops will be capable of streaming your desktop to any HDTV wirelessly using Intel's built-in technology WiDi technology. The television requires a small adapter that will either come bundle with the laptop or sold separately. Toshiba's new Satellite E205 laptop with be the first to have WiDi and Netgear is currently the only company with an actual retail receiver but according to AnandTech the demo they saw at CES was easy to use and worked surprisingly well.

This is one thing that I thought was actually pretty cool from CES. How much simpler and convenient it would be to download dramas and other media via BitTorrent and then simply wireless transmit the signal to your TV for viewing.

My thoughts exactly. Victory! Peace!

Of course, there's the issue of encrypting, so neighbors and passers-by don't steal your stuff.... I'm sure that's been considered.

Krell Evolution 555

This is about as gold-school customh as a Blu-ray player can be.

Krellfs first Blu-ray player, the Evolution 555, features 12-bit Sigma Design VXP technology for processing video algorithms for noise reduction, de-interlacing, scaling, image enhancement and frame rate conversion. It has broad aspect ratio control including a vertical stretch feature for systems employing 2.35:1 Constant Image Height display systems. Vertical stretch eliminates the black bars at the top and bottom of the image without adding distortion, or artifacts.

Meanwhile, itfs a Profile 2.0 Ready (BD Live) Blu-ray/DVD player with 1GB of onboard memory and has an SD card slot to add expanded memory for BD Live and Bonus View movie titles, as well as playback options for photos and music files.

Therefs also an onboard Ethernet port for Internet connectivity, firmware updates, BD Live interactivity and IP control. Dual, assignable, HDMI outputs are provided with the option of full audio and video output to two systems, or dedicate one HDMI for audio, the other for video.

It has full HDMI 1.3 compliance but itfs upgradable to HDMI 1.4. Krell plans to ship it by late Q2 2010 with an MSRP of $15,000.

It calls the MVP881 its first true universal disc player. It can play Blu-ray, DVD, CD, DVD-Audio and SACD discs and includes BD Live 2.0 to access online content available on Blu-ray discs.

MSRP: $8,000
