One hundred years ago, 19-year-old Hiramatsu Chokichi (Kusanagi Tsuyoshi), who was born as the second son to poor peasants in Shimane, decides to leave for America in the spring of 1912 to reduce the mouths his impoverished family has to feed and to work abroad. However, behind this decision is a secret dream to make a name for himself in America. Chokichi suffered setbacks from his early years but he does not lose heart because of his fortitude, and continues to work hard as a seasonal labourer in the farms. Yusuke Yamamoto stars in rhythmic gymnastics drama
Wed, February 17, 2010 (2:42am EST)
This spring, TBS will explore the world of men's rhythmic gymnastics with a new drama series titled "Tumbling." The show will feature a cast of popular young actors, led by Yusuke Yamamoto (22) in his first lead role in a series.
Yamamoto plays a high school delinquent who has a weakness for women. When an attractive transfer student (Azusa Okamoto) joins the women's rhythmic gymnastics team, he responds by joining the men's team and soon discovers a passion for the sport. Since last fall, Yamamoto has been undergoing special gymnastics training for the role.
Although men's rhythmic gymnastics originated in Japan, the sport is still dominated by women. It is estimated that there are only about a thousand men involved in the sport competitively.
The supporting cast of "Tumbling" includes Koji Seto, Shohei Miura, Shunsuke Daito, Takahiro Nishijima, Satoshi Tomiura, Tomo Yanagishita, Kento Kaku, Soran Tamoto, Rei Okamoto, Jiro Sato, Ryoko Kuninaka, and Nene Otsuka.
TBS plans to broadcast the series on Sunday nights at 7:56pm, starting in April.

Perhaps a "Waterboys" for this decade?
Rhythmic Gymnastics has a shabby image over here - there must be some truth in it - a friend of mine competed for Belgium in the early 90ties and has many stories of medication abuse, anabolic steroids etc. He quit at 19.

Matsuyuki stars in "Mother"
Yasuko Matsuyuki (37) will star in an NTV drama series this spring, titled "Mother." As the title suggests, the drama will carry a theme of motherhood, but it will have an element of suspense.
Matsuyuki, who is a mother herself, plays the part of Nao Suzuhara, an elementary school teacher. When she realizes that one of the female students is receiving abuse from her mother, Nao's maternal instincts kick in, and she impulsively decides to bring the girl into her own care. Serving as a substitute mother, Nao takes the child on a trip from Hokkaido to Tokyo, and the two experience various events together along the way.
The story is based on an original script by Yuji Sakamoto ("Tokyo Love Story," "Watashitachi no Kyoukasho") and co-directed by Nobuo Mizuta ("Maiko Haaaan!!!") and Makoto Naganuma. Filming will begin later this month in Hokkaido.
NTV will broadcast the show on Wednesdays at 10:00pm, beginning in April.

Ayumi Ito (29) started her acting career as a child 17 years ago, but now she will finally be the star of a television drama. She has been cast in a four-episode series on TBS titled "Kioku no Umi," airing next month.
The drama is based on a novel that won the grand prize of the 2nd Drama Gensaku Taisho (organized by TBS and Kodansha). The story is set in the near future, where society has achieved the ability to convert human memories into data, allowing them to be preserved. Satomi Ono (Ito), a member of a university research team, is hoping for the recovery of her boyfriend (Michitaka Tsutsui), who was involved in an accident during an experiment and can now retain only three minutes of memory at a time.
TBS has scheduled the drama for four consecutive nights (March 22-25) at 11:30pm.

Spring 2010 drama - Sunao ni Narenakute fɂȂȂ
Eita and Ueno Juri will be working together for the 8th time in the FujiTV spring 2010 drama, "Sunao ni Narenakute" (I can't be frank) which begins its run in the Thursday 10pm slot from April. The drama will be produced by the same crew which produced "Last Friends", the last drama which Eita and Ueno worked together. The script is written by Kitagawa Eriko whose last work was "Sora kara furu ichioku no Hoshi" which starred Kimura Takuya and Fukatsu Eri.
The two of them are 2 of 5 main characters who come to know one another through the short message communication application Twitter and the drama depicts the process how they become true friends. Eita plays Nakaji who aspired to be a war photographer but starts to have second thoughts after seeing his father return injured from the war zone. On the other hand, Ueno plays a part-time teacher Haru at a private senior high school who feels frustrated at being unable to handle the demands of her job. Haru then meets Nakaji through Twitter where he subsequently falls for her but is unable to be frank about his feelings.
Tamayama Tetsuji and Seki Megumi also form part of the cast as Linda and Peach while the person to play the final character in the group has yet to be decided. Linda is the leader of the group and works in the publishing industry. However, despite his flashy appearance, Linda is troubled because he is suffering from erectile dysfunction (ED) at a young age. As for the character Peach, she is Haru's buddy who has an affair with her married superior.

So many great casting next season! Matsuyuki-san is back, so is Uchino, and Watanabe-Yui, and now Juri-Eita. Spring season is looking prettier by the second!
And how glad I am that the rumored Nishikido Ryo drama did not materialize as Narimiya Hiroki is now confirmed as the lead. Yes for Narimiya, who I love more as an actor than Ryo. _________________

^ Hmm.... The story doesn't sound all that interesting.
Well there's this from Tokyograph
Popular screenwriter Eriko Kitagawa is handling the script. Kitagawa was responsible for "Orange Days" (which Eita and Ueno also appeared in) and other hit dramas, though "Sunao ni Narenakute" is her first for Fuji TV since "Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi" in 2002.
"Sunao ni Narenakute" will premiere in April, airing on Thursday nights at 10:00pm.
If Kitagawa's doing the writing, that's a big plus!
