Coroner: Pneumonia, drugs killed Brittany Murphy
By ANTHONY McCARTNEY, AP Entertainment Writer Anthony Mccartney, Ap Entertainment Writer 4 mins ago
LOS ANGELES – Brittany Murphy died from pneumonia, but anemia and prescription drugs also played a role, coroner's officials said Thursday.
The primary cause of death was community-acquired pneumonia, with contributing factors of iron deficiency anemia and "multiple drug intoxication," according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.
The death was ruled accidental.

I suppose another example of having everything, yet having nothing.

Indeed. Sometimes they come at a price that is too high.

Fashion designer Alexander McQueen has taken his own life at age 40. His office confirmed his death, saying: 'It is a tragic loss. We are not making a comment at this time out of respect for the McQueen family.' He was found at his home in London.
McQueen's store on West 14th Street in New York was was temporarily closed on Thursday morning.
Anna Wintour reportedly left the BCBG show in a rush this morning after hearing the news.
McQueen's secondary line, McQ, was to be presented Thursday, the day of his death, as part of New York Fashion Week. KCD, the PR company handling the show, says the presentation is canceled. |
His death is a great loss to the fashion world. His mother died last week and he was supposedly very depressed over that. May he Rest in Peace.

Far too young. Given his gravitas in the fashion world, I'm sure he will be sorely missed by countless people.
Strange how artists often lead a seemingly tortured life.

True. It just seems when someone has the opportunity to satisfy their desire for artistic creation through their craft, rather than pursuing a more mundane means of "employment," you would think that would lead to more fulfillment. I'm sure that's an oversimplification but you get the idea....

Sorry if this isn't the correct thread to continue discussing this topic, but I think what happens with truly great artists who suffer from melancholy or depression is that their art brings them their greatest joy. In the process of them sharing their artistic talents with us, no matter how painful to them, it gives us all some of our greatest moments of joy and beauty. So even through their suffering they are able to give others so much! They couldn't possibly work in any old mundane job otherwise where would their creative genius be released. Their real fulfillment comes from their art. Who knows what causes a person to commit suicide. Perhaps they just want the emotional pain to stop and unfortunately they don't see another way out. Yet there are so many ways out if only they could look beyond the moment of sadness and sorrow and have faith in a better or brighter tomorrow.
P.S. I just read this about the death of Alexander McQueen's good friend 3 years ago. Perhaps the loss of his friend and the recent passing of his mother pushed him over the edge. This is from msn.com:
Isabella Blow as McQueenfs muse
McQueen was discovered by Isabella Blow, a fashion fanatic who bought his first graduate collection in its entirety back in 1994 (which she reportedly paid off in 100-pound installments each week). Rarely photographed in anything not designed by the creative mastermind, Blow served as a friend and muse for many years, before also taking her own life just three years ago.

Mon Feb 15, 5:00 am ET
WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – Doug Fieger, leader of the power pop band The Knack who sang on the 1979 hit "My Sharona," died Sunday. He was 57.
Fieger, a Detroit-area native, died at his home in Woodland Hills near Los Angeles after battling cancer, according to The Knack's manager, Jake Hooker.
Fieger formed The Knack in Los Angeles 1978, and the group quickly became a staple of Sunset Strip rock clubs. A year later he co-wrote and sang lead vocals on "My Sharona."
