Lovely...need a picture to go with it then it is a haiga.

I have never seen a butterfly that large. Can you take a phicture sometime with something for comparison in size?

I love butterflies but I am panic stricken if a moth appears. I honestly get hysterical. I don't know why.

Funny story re this during the war but it is too long....

Actually it can be really hard to tell the difference. Many which look like one are the other. Butterflies rest with wings together and Moths with them flat.

Applaud Eve that is a fabulous photo. What a catch for the bird as well as the camera..

Yes I know the way moths rest but it's when they take flight that I go bonkers. I have tried to trace the feeling back but cannot tie it in with any event in childhood. It's just an ominous and immediate reaction.

Thanks gaginmark, but it's all pre Peter Sellers time.

I did not stir when the enemy planes appeared.. just stayed in my warm bed, but the moth sent me shrieking downtairs minus slippers and gas mask and flashlight...!!! It would be hilarious except for the horrendous heartpounding.

It must have been from a former life....but when?????

Back on topic Eve.

Haiku 1

So hot burns the summer sun
Yet cooler than fierce passion
In my heart.

********************

Haiku 2

Words crackle in winter's air
They will not melt
You have wandered away

Haiku top of my head.. Scenes from 'PRIDE'

Halu strikes the ice
Which melts with joy
But closes once more.
He glides on.

Halu in his car, so fierce.
Lollipops soften his sharp
Two edged tongue.

***************

Eve ..Did you see Kimura in "PRIDE" ? Satisfying.

Eve,

As I read your haiku
I watch Plum Blossoms falling.
Trees shed their gems

Wynchan?
Seriously?

All I learned is that there should be seventeen syllables but the arrangement is loose as the writer wishes.

on the other hand waka is definitely
Five
Seven
Five
Seven
Seven
which should add up to 31 syllables.

the waka form is really interesting and gives the writer more leeway in describing his thoughts and you can give a more detailed meaning. It was used in courts between Emperor and Empress and they could say things in a sort of code which the bearer of the letter could not understand.
Those were the days when cell phones did not exist so communication was a written exercise. Much more personal I think but time consuming. Would not work in this twitterish age.
Even in the early twentieth century it was not unusual for husbands and wives or lovers to write many bon mots to one another during a day.

I received poems from my true love but not every day. It's rather nice.

Missed post when abroad.

Wiki can always clear all

Like winters crisp sky.

Haiku is also about counting the syllables to a certain extent which can not be translated totally into English. But the usual formula is 17 syllables usually cut up in 3 lines.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haiku

A seasonal word is used but the topic does not have to be about the seasons from what I gather.

So in other words we can hoof it when we wanna. Mr Green

But I stick to 5,7,5 since I learned it at school. Beaten

Yes, this is the formula that I know, but when I was reading the thread, people were using other formulas, so I got confused.

Peg's post cleared the confusion up tho! w00t!
