I m getting a little excited because again this evening I was watching the NHK channel here and they showed clips of Takuya in 'MR.BRAIN' and also Osawa in the 'TASTE OF FISH'. Now I really think they will show these dramas on TV and probably start on the 24th of this month. It goes too fast for me to see what is written, even supposing I could recognise a word or two. all I saw was the date.

I am hoping.

have I mentioned that I've watched BALLAD? gosh his charisma really stands out in the movie. I must admit that he steals the limelight from Tsu whenever they are in the same scene. I was charmed

I watched the film 'TASTE OF FISH" this evening on the NHK TV channel. Sadly no subs. However I watched and enjoyed, even tho there were places where I did not quite understand how the dialogue was going. the general story was pleasant and not difficult and the settings were interesting, especially in the fish market and definitely in the fish barn on the beach when there was a very rough sea and ongoing storm.

The romance was so limited that I wondered why all the dramatics when Osawa was pleading with the girl and then with her father. Why was she not accepting him? Who could refuse him???

There were two things that kept me watching until the end. One was having Osawa acting which was most satisfying. The other was the marvellous background music with the saxophone. I think there is something so special about a mournful wailing of an alto sax. Whoever played was a master of his instrument.

Later there was the first episode of 'MR BRAIN' Again no subs which is really not good with all the technical talking re the various crimes and why they happened. It was nice to see Kimura on my big screen TV however, I will probably watch other episodes on Saturday evenings. I do have this drama with subs so I can more or less remember what goes on.

Well, the father disagreed of her marrying Asuka, the daughter, because of Shuntaro's (Osawa) background. He knows zero about fish and the business. It's a family business and if they get married it means Osawa has to take over it and he didn't seem to like the idea. Moreover he already has a candidate to whom he would inherit the company. It's really an interesting movie, because it turns out that the onichan is Asuka's (Tanaka Rena) step brother. No one knows it except the father and the onichan themselves. The workers all believe that Asuka and onichan will get married someday and onichan will take over the company. That's why they were all against Shuntaro and Asuka's relationship. He starts getting everyone's attention and sympathy by working hard, and it also turns out that he has the best sense when it comes to best fish. This finally melts the father's heart.

I like the interaction among the characters here. And would love to watch it again if I have the chance

thanks for the synopsis. It helped tremendously. I can now see what a few of the scenes were getting at.
I don't know about you, but I think I admire Osawa more now he is older. He certainaly has more expression in his face and still he does not look old. Great smile. I shall be looking for balad also.

He had me at JIN, and yes he was 41 years old back then, and yes I love him more and more as he gets older I'm always fond of veteran japanese actors, they have this kind of magnet and charisma which younger japanese actors don't

btw, do you have NHK at home Peg?
if you do, stay tune on NHK-BS1 (I don't know what BS-1 means ) from May 2nd until May 5th, because Osawa will be the narrator of the 50th Japan National Football team documentary.

Yes I have NHK. I pay extra to have it. So far it has been worth it for I am able to watch RYOMADEN with English subs and also had the first episode of MR.BRAIN last Saturday evening. Plus lots of other fascinating documentaries and dramas which I have not seen anywhere else.

I will look out for Osawa for sure.

By the way I was watching Osawa in some sort of film/drama on my local Japanese channel this past week. It was a bank heist job and he seemed to be the planner for the group. I think four men and a girl from various jobs. It was on the funny side and quite OTT.
Don't know what it is called as yet. Have to look it up.

Peg, I'm glad you mentioned that film because I've had that film for quite some time but haven't had the chance to watch it. So, as soon as I read your post, I dug my dvd collection, and watched it right away.

the title is A Cheerful Gang Turns The Earth, and you're right, it was hilarious. He seems to be the leader of the gang, and he has the capability to detect lies. And Osawa oh Osawa, I was like squealing whenever he's on the screen. Gorgeous! Especially when he wore glasses, such a killer

btw, a couple of days ago one of the local tv stations aired Into The Sun. It's Osawa's movie with Steven Seagal. I've been waiting for this movie to be aired since the tv station has been airing quite a lot of steven Seagal's movies, and I'm glad I could catch it.
