Wow I just saw the pahe on Love Complex; people either love it or hate it. I think i gotta see what all the fuss is about And maybe I'll try Oyaji too. I read a little bit of it while I was getting my Otousan fix. Ill search for these two, thanks guys _________________
Anyways. I think all jdramas are usually 45mins long; sometimes a little longer for the last episodes. Don't know of any long ones. Not sure if you talking about japanese dramas specifically, but pretty common for HK dramas to be 20+ episodes.

You might be looking for something with several seasons, like Kasouken no Onna (Investigator Mariko). All 4 seasons add up to 36 eps. Otherwise, maybe morning dramas like Churasan.

musashi isn't available on the net for download yet right? been wanting to watch that one...
It already was for download via the newsgroups. I highly doubt anyone would upload such a long series via BT. It's easier to trade with someone who downloaded it on the newsgroups....which isn't that many, as far as I know. Maybe Buruburu has it...

You're not kiddin': All 49 episodes span 17 DVDR discs... If I had a burner (which I don't yet), I'd be hard pressed to burn a copy for someone... It's too labor intensive.

If you can handle dark dramas, Kono Yo no Hate and Bara no Jujika are what you should get. I know KYnH gets more credit because Honami Suzuki is in it (and she happened to be the one who hooked me into J-drama, through her effort in News no Onna with Takky), but her partner Mikami shines through it, IMO, even more because he's the one taking the more beatings. And in BnJ he doesn't rest either. It's a pity not many fans around here respect him more.
If Kono Yo no Hate is the dark side of loving a person, then Bara no Jujika is the dark side of loving a family. Maybe that's why it shocked me more, I mean, we're talking about a star-crossed family that wouldn't be broken...
Another dark one that I should tell you, but which I'm sure many others find it easy to say (because a pretty young girl shouldn't be considered for a "dark" drama) is Kamisama Mo Sukoshi dake, the first drama which made me see sadness through Japanese eyes.
On d-addicts, I've already told people not to upload large Japanese dramas like Musashi or Toshiee to Matsu. Shinsengumi! snuck in there, but we've decided to use that series as an experiment.
The reason for the ban is that we'd like to keep the seeding alive on most of the torrents. Just the idea of keeping up with seeding on a taiga drama gives me the heebee jeebees.

By the way, your observation, though accurate, is not seen as a problem.
In Japanese television, it's quite different from American television in that the Japanese audience like to see quick completions on these series. They particularly don't like the American style of dragging characters through the ringer season-after-season, such as Cheers, Frasier, Friends, Seifeld, etc. There's a much closer bond between the Japanese audience and the Jdorama characters than in America. As a result of this, each episode is very brief, but concise, and there's quick closure so that the audience isn't left hanging.
And, the reason you see 45-minute episodes is that they were REALLY 60-minute episodes, but with the commercials taken out.
The ONLY categories that do not fit this profile are:
- American soap-opera style dramas, such as Wataru seiken wa oni bakari. I just LOVE this series! It's an average of 52 or so 46-minute episodes. It's very similar to things like Days of Our Lives, As the World Turns, etc.
- As someone mentioned, Investigator Mariko, as well as others like Hagure Keiji Jujoha, end a season after X number of episodes, but start off a brand new season the following year using the same name, but also increasing the season number. In America, you don't see stuff like "Frasier 1" or "M*A*S*H 10". In Japan, they number the series.
- Taiga dramas. This type of drama is special because it usually involves something historical, along with a multi-million dollar budget to make it, which is very very unusual.
