The subs seem fine: I tried to run them over the DVD in VLC media player ... kind of worked for a while

yeah... it's a bit too long movie to be watched during the week, especially when there's a tendency to rewind a lot of scenes

yeah, but I was to lazy to download that movie file that went with them to check em out. i'm waiting fo the sars hardsub because they're usually very neat and translate everything.

True.

But my gripe with their subs is that they use oddball fonts and add too much extraneous info... Less is more, IMO.

If I didn't already have the DVD I'd go with softsubs.
But if I have to chose between hardsubs versions, I prefer the "pretty" ones which also tranlate everything on signs, posters or various writings.

I have the DVD(s) and I still prefer the softsubs.

That's only important if it pertains to the scene, otherwise it's just a distraction.
