Greetings E.G.
Yes those were real old fashioned celebrations.
Did you ever see the original film in black and white of 'A Christmas Carol'
It had Alistair Sym playing Scrooge. and I think John Mills was also in the cast. It was the best version that was ever made. Hollywood tried to do one much later and it was quite ridiculous.
Ah well.
God Bless us every one.
Peg.
You mean the old movie classic, Scrooge? Nope, haven't seen that one, and even if I looked for it now I doubt the video shops in my side of town still carry titles from 1951. Come to think of it, I haven't really watched a single film adaptation of "A Christmas Carol." I just read the novella as a kid, and that was it... Unless you count The Muppet Christmas Carol, lol. Now, that I remember seeing. (Kermit as Bob Cratchit? Stroke of genius! )

I have the Alistair Sim version on DVD.
Patrick MacNee (from The Avengers fame) was also in that classic 1951 film.
Hollywood has done a number of versions of the film, with varying success... Though the TV version with George C. Scott is quite good.

Christmas decorations should always stay up until 12th Night after the holiday.
I bet no-one remembers when Christmas trees were always live and fresh. Nothing plastic existed. After all the German glass ornaments were carefully hung on the tree, the silver chains and the silver icicles were hung on the branches. The final thing on Christmas Eve was clipping on the tiny little candles a bit larger than birthday candles and they were all lit. All other lights were put out and we all admired the beautiful tree.
Why there were never house fires is a mystery. I think everyone was too sensible to have that happen, and we always loved our tree so much.

When candles were used the trees were always cut right before, not sitting around in tree lots for weeks. And the candles weren't left burning when no one was home I would guess.
We always have a fresh tree with glass ornaments and we keep up the decorations and tree thru February. Alot of aspirin in the tree water from early on keeps it fresh and prevents the needles from falling off.
Every year I watch all the versions of A Christmas Carol. Sims was awesome but so was Finney. To top it off we watch the Bill Murray version.

Hmm. Last night of peace before I lock myself in the kitchen for two and a half days, cooking for the Christmas Eve do.
I'm gonna go with the "Always" movies as my Christmas treat this year.
What are they? There are two dramas I watch on occasion. I watch all of Churasan every summer, and I watch Last Christmas every Winter. _________________
