I'd watch either of those two again over anything from Pixar and their ilk.
Well, I wouldn't disagree. I have a penchant for anime so I feel the same way. Those two films are definitely more sophisticated in terms of what they are trying to convey compared to the average CGI animated flick.

Yup... Considerably more intelligence is required from the viewer.
Well you alluded to it earlier, the average animated feature here in America doesn't endeavor to challenge the viewer to exercise any intelligence...a cultural bias perhaps?

I think Hollywood (and most Americans, for that matter) doesn't view animated films as a serious, dramatic art form like live action films...
That's probably why highly-praised anime like Princess Mononoke and Grave of the Fireflies aren't promoted heavily or do well in U.S. markets...
Getting ready to watch Summer Wars, the second film of my home Anime festival.
I think any Japanese anime film, especially highly acclaimed ones, entertain the viewer in a more deeper way than some or most American animated films, just my opinion, I hope you enjoyed it.

Different target market as well, perhaps?
I cant think of any animation in the USA other than x rated that is geared mainly for an older crowd. _________________

Yeah I made my cultural bias reference in that the target demographic is invariably children, so much so that it is rarely deemed a sophisticated art form that can or would appeal to older individuals.
