Yes you're right, it's definitely in weirdo corner

I am new to the forum and I would like some recommendations. I haven't watched that many drama's yet.

I did like:

Raifu (Life)

1 litre of tears

Summer Snow

Mioka

Hikari to Tomo ni (With the Light)

I like series that focus on disabilities or diseases. I am also interested in watching J-drama with the focus on food. Is there anything you can recommend? I like drama with a deep story but not with too much blood. So I am curious what you will come up with I only have 3 eps of Mioka left so I am looking for something new Thanks! | |

I recommend Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake. It focuses on a girl who contracts HIV after making an ill-advised mistake. It's one of my favorite dramas ever. As far as food dramas, I haven't seen that many food dramas so I can't help you out there.

You're welcome. Those are the only food-themed dramas I could think of, off hand. I'm know there are more...I'll try to chime in again when I can give further recommendations.

For dramas where the theme deals with illness, I absolutely recommend:
Sekai no Chuushin de, Ai wo Sakebu (also goes by Sekachu)
It's one of my favorite dramas of all time.
And as an added sales pitch - it received 9 Television Drama Academy Awards including Best Drama and Best Casting
There's also a movie version but I like the tv series more as it has more time to capture the human element.

For food dramas, you could try:
 Shota no Sushi
Its easy to watch and interesting as you learn more about sushi.

No worries, I just thought it was ironic we both recommended the same show.

Yeah, it was entertaining and educational. Moreover, it was unusual given that series had several more episodes than is typical for a Japanese drama.

By coincidence, two dramas that fall into those two categories star the same actor, Higashiyama Noriyuki: GM Odore Doctor and Kuitan/Kuitan2.

Just kidding I was throwing in Orange Days - lovely, the main heroine has a disability but it's fun and very positive.

Good call. Really enjoyed that one.

Unlike the others, I can't recommend this film: It's depressingly sad and weepy.

Then it is a shame that Daisuki!! is not on your list, by far the most realistic drama dealing with a disability.

You could also give Smile a try. But I am not sure, if it really fits here, because normally having a foreign father does not count as a disability, apparently not so in Japan...
