Yup. Anytime I see a drama with short skirts and big hair, I know it's got a chance to be good.

It's before the inrush of those actor wannabe J-Pop stars, which diluted the acting pool and prompted writers to write dramas for that J-idol crowd.

Ehhh, you're only saying that because Naohito was in that drama.

Sounds like a lot of people agree with you. There's this:
Horikita Maki's "Umechan-sensei" got 18.5% ratings (Kanto) for 1st ep - highest start for an Asadora in last 5 years.

Taking a break from Gegege no Nyobo I decided to watch Strawberry Night. http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Strawberry_Night
And I'm very pleased I did.
The mysteries didn't really break new ground, but it's nice to see someone like Takeuchi playing this kind of part. She's one of the few actresses that can give the impression of strength and intelligence... while still being good looking enough to be the star of a TV show.
And a wonderful cast, filled with her supporters and her enemies.
I loved her relationship with her squad.
I understand there's a movie yet to come... but it would be nice if they decided to do another season.
Oh yeah...
Hey Evie!
Yup, I'm back at it. Just a bit less obsessed than before. And that's probably a good thing. _________________ Manga is to Literature

It must be working, since they're on Aibou 10 in Japan.

That's true, there's never been quite another asadora like Oshin.
Apparently, it's also on youtube, with English subs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCfbtkJwVDc _________________

Don't usually watch medical dramas, but this one was highly entertaining, with some great characters and a great ending theme, "Lullaby of Birdland" by Juju. I could listen to that tune all day.... |
Yep, that's what i like. No doctor playing god or magician. It's the least overbearing medical drama thus far. I dunno if it should have been classified as a comedy. By the way, Juju's soundtrack is already in youtube.

"Gegege", another biographical asadora, also spoke about the second world war. The difference is the account shared in "Gegege" was a real experience of the manga writer.
I remembered when Oshin was completing its run on TV, Yaohan Department Store was declared bankrupt. It was extremely sad.
Whichever asadora I choose to compare, it would still be better than the spread of jdoramas we have on TV now.
