anyways... i dun know about them... but their popularity is in mainland japan.. so i doubt they'll be in L.A. anytime soon....
but Kato Masaya lives right here in L.A. XD!!!! |
Alright, NOW, I'm quoting you because I'm practically not above you at all.
Is it really a serious topic? I don't see any foreign policy debates here.
AND you seem so hyper abt Kato Masaya lives in LA (btw, I know that too a long time ago).

I just heard (rather later, of course ) that Takako Matsu was in L.A. several years ago making one of her albums. I'd really like to see them in person! Heck, for that matter, I'd give an arm and a leg to see them! If anyone has any info about them, please post here! |
I also live in SoCal, but probably most of us will never run into any J-dorama actors or big music stars unless you are a professional guide for JTB or work at one of the big nightclubs in LA where some of the jet-set hang out. Hamasaki Ayumi, ELT, Glay, Zard and many more J-pop & K-pop (such as Duke) have filmed music videos out in the Palms Springs area (where those big windmill generators are) and in the Mojave desert (mostly between Lancaster and Barstow.) They usually fly into LA, stay at the most exclusive hotels in Beverly Hills or along the coast, take a limo or helicopter out to where the shoot will be, come back and do some shopping, then fly home or to Hawaii for a few days.
If you work at a store on Rodeo Drive, at the Bloomingdales complex in OC or at some of the more ritzy stores in Palms Springs, then you would be more likely to see a famous J-star (Cabazon outlet stores near Banning is another place to check out--they get bunches of wealthy Japanese tourists there on weekends, and I could have sworn I saw Ryoko Hirosue there one time!) Unlike New York City, visiting J-celebs in SoCal usually go by limo, stay low-key and don't attract a lot of attention. I think we also don't realize what these people look like without their professional makeup on, and wearing casual clothes & sunglasses. Might be really hard to pick out a well-known J-star who was mixing in with the crowds at Disneyland, for example.
Rie Miyazawa is the only well-known J-actress I know of who lived in LA for several years after recovering from her suicide attempt. Singer Hiromi Go also lives now in LA, doesn't he? I also hear that producer/Globe's Komuro Tetsuya has a home & studio in LA. Palos Verdes is supposedly a place where a lot of Asian stars have exclusive homes or condos. Their income puts them on another level, so unless you are also wealthy, connected or in the elite tourist trade, it's going to be tough to run into any of those types. Here's a clue though--Anytime a Japanese national sports team (like the Japan womens' soccer team who practiced at the Home Depot Center this spring) shows up in the US, it tends to attract any Japanese celebrities who happen to also be in the area. Ichiro's first season in Seattle attracted a LOT of J-stars up there whenever they were in town.

Meruchan,
Thanks for savings my thread and getting it back on topic. All I did was ask a simple question about my favorite artists and before I knew it, it'd gotten pretty ugly. I sometimes wonder what gets into people ...
Anyway, I guess you're right. It's probably pretty doubtful that I'd get a chance to see any of my favorite actresses here in L.A. Bummer! Can't remember offhand which JDorama it was but I remember Matsushima Nanako filmed a few scenes in Santa Monica and others in the desert area. Man, I would have loved to have been there and gotten her autograph! Oh, well ... I guess we can all dream, huh?
