Had lunch at Ramen Hayatemaru in Torrance, which replaced the tempura restaurant Komatsu.
Apparently this place has some cred, as it's an LA branch of a Japanese ramen chain with 5 locations in Japan.
Grabbed some gyoza & their Shiro Miso Ramen with a hanjuku tamago. Comes with a little chili paste if you want to kick it up a notch. Nice heat, not overwhelming.
The broth is deep, with lots of flavor. Noodles are good, but the chashu could use a little work. Best chashu is still Tsujita LA on Sawtelle, Daikokuya, and the Toroniku Shio chashu from Santouka...all other ramen restaruants in LA have chashu that is pretty much lacking.
Worth a visit for the broth alone. It's excellent.

Check it out man. It's worth a visit. I went there early shortly after they opened (around 11am) and the restaurant was host to a huge party of Japanese that were having a good ol' time celebrating something. I think I was the only NON-Japanese in there.

Grabbed an early lunch/brunch at Houston's. I really don't frequent chain restaurants much at all but this one is good. The food is good and the service is always polite, courteous, and efficient.

I havent eaten it in years but I adore rack of lamb.
We dont cook it as my husband doesnt like to eat, what he calls, "babies".
I cant argue with a soft heart.
Sounds good to me! Costco actually carries a nice Australian rack of lamb that comes Frenched and vacuum sealed. No need for butchering skills.
I haven't done it in AGES but I used to buy it, rub the the lamb with olive oil and then season it with sea salt and fresh cracked pepper and then sear it fat side down in a cast iron skillet. After you get some nice carmelization on that puppy and seal in the juices I would sprinkle it with some French Herbs de Provence and finish it in the oven for twenty minutes. After letting the rack rest for a while, when you slice between the bones you get a nice pink interior that is juicy, flavorful, and aromatic. The smell of the herbs while its roasting in the oven is great.

LA's ramen revolution continues unabated.
Japanese Chain Men Oh Tokushima Ramen Opening This Fall in Little Tokyo
By Tien Nguyen Mon., Sep. 10 2012 at 12:01 PM
Ramen at Men Oh Tokushima Ramen's San Francisco shop
Because we still have room for ramen in this city, it looks like we'll have at least one more noodle shop to add before the sky falls, the zombies attack and 2012 is over: Japanese chain Men Oh Tokushima Ramen is coming to Little Tokyo. Per this Craigslist post, the restaurant is now hiring servers and kitchen staff for lunch and dinner service.
With 12 locations in Japan and two in Northern California, Men Oh specializes in "Tokushima ramen," which puts homemade noodles in a pork-bone-and-soy-sauce-based broth. Rich pork belly is offered as a topping in addition to chashu; if you'd rather have a raw egg to crack into your soup as opposed to one that is poached or soft-boiled, you can have that, too.
The restaurant's help-wanted ad notes a "mid-September opening," though Men Oh told us that the date is looking more like early October. Which works just as well. Ramen as pre-apocalyptic food? You can do a lot worse.
