Good combination between sport, human drama and love story.. The kids are really cute (esp. nakajima!!) and have a great chemistry with kimu-taku even better than koyuki..

This is kind of a typical formula drama scripted to appeal to everyone and it was very good. I would not call it special in any way but it was entertaining and enjoyable to watch. Not something that really stood out to me but I had fun.

I think this is a good example of a perfect balance between fun and drama. As long as tragedy of the infants struck you there is always Kimuya to cheer the crowd. Along with his characters will to go on and race, this is a very interesting and satisfying dorama altogether. Maybe not much "love story" but hey, there is plenty of love dorama out there. Recommended for everyone.

A Kimura Takura drama for sure. He really dominates this drama. I felt the love interest should have developed a little more. Still it is a fantastic drama and well worth watching.

Great heartfelt drama, throughly enjoyed seeing Kimura play the role of Kazaki, the kids were great throughout and made me laugh many times! :-)

This is about my first Japanese drama. Far as I can say, I saw all the episodes. The main character is not your normal character. He's kind of childish but in a adult way. The children in the orphanage are all great. You have the quiet type, the siblings, the youngest and so far and each has a story to them, though not exaggerated in anyway.
Give it a watched, all of the episodes has their own taste.

This striking, nicely mounted series is also completely original in the world of doramas. This exceptionally attractive cast (which includes Kimura Takuya, Kaho, Koyuki, Erika Toda, Juri Ueno...and the list goes on) chains your eyes to the TV. And it's hard not to like the sound and small of motor engines - a real change from your standard office drama. Engine is gently humorous at times, but the flavor is more relaxed than you'd might otherwise expect.

Kimura Takura once again potrays the character brilliantly! Good supporting cast as well.

The whole dorama doesn't show much racing though. Somehow the title kinda misleading the audience. Was expecting more racing scenes and storyline to that....but the expectation was totally different. However with kimura in the cast, you can't help it....to like the dorama too.

It was a wonderful drama that had lots of meanings and lessons that we can interpret in real life. The characters were just so real that you sometimes forget that it's a drama. Kimura Takuya had an amazing chemistry with both the kids and the leading lady. He portrayed his character really well, and the audience could just sympothize with him and his character.

This is an incredibly well crafted drama. The adult actors are impressive enough, but the children and teens actors had me blown away.

Although I enjoyed watching Engine, I must admit that it is a forgettable drama. I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline in regards to the Orphanage and the staff, but I was confused as to the importance of Race Car Driving. This career of Jirofs (played by Kimura) didnft mesh well with the Orphanage storyline. In fact, the Racing career could have been easily replaced with any other career. The purpose of having a career in the first place was to demonstrate Jirofs personal growth as an individual. It didnft have to be racing. It could have been anything. I didnft find that it was incorporated well at all.
Before watching the drama I read that many people didnft enjoy the Kimura/Koyuki pairing. I had no problem with it. I think Koyuki has a difficult job appealing to the viewers. She doesnft have the typical gkawaiih features and therefore doesnft have the mass appealc but shefs a fabulous actress. She was perfect in the role of Tomomi sensei. Her character type and Kimurafs character type really did go well together, even if they physically werenft a match.
The children at the orphanage were charming and, once again, Ueno Juri demonstrated her wide range of talent. The plot became problematic when it fell into a stringent routine of featuring a child every episode, but I didnft mind it that much.
In the end, Ifm glad I watched this dramac but I probably wonft spend the 11 hours watching it again.

With Takuya, no drama is bad. But this drama lack of .... something I didn't get. Maybe more love scenes is needed here (^_^)

Kimura does a good job of playing Jiro, a selfish race car driver who gets stuck taking care of kids. He slowly starts to care more and more for them. This leads to a good emotional scene. Good actor. In addition, some of the kids, while cute, are also good little actors. Harada as Jiro's father is also perfect. Watch this and you shouldn't be disappointed.
shari · 21 Dec 2006
Not really about race cars but more about a bunch of uprooted kids who find someone they can look up to. Kimura Takuya is perfect as the over-the-hill race car driver. But the chemistry between Koyuki and Kimura runs out of gas when romance develops.

the plot's abit weird... and i think they should get a younger female lead. but takuya's just as brilliant!
