By the way, you know in some older interviews, Tamaki said that he tried to hide his Nagoya accent when he moved to Tokyo? I'm curious what are the differences between Nagoya accent and Tokyo accent? Does Tamaki speak with Nagoya accent sometimes? I want to know more about him  Thank you in advance ne!
The difference between Nagoya accent and Tokyo(normal) accent! What a diligent Japanese learner!
To start with, Japanese words consist of a combination of high-tone-pronouced syllables(H) and low-tone- pronounced syllables(L). For example,
a-ri-ga-tou(Thank you) is usually pronouned as: L-H-L-L. But, in Nagoya we often pronounce it like L-L-H-L. This is Nagoya accent. It is hard for us to hide Nagoya accent because we donft notice it until someone from other area points out the difference.
Whatfs more, if we pronouce
a-me as H-L, it means rain, but if L-H it means a candy. So we have to be a little careful when we talk.
We can find Tamaki-kunfs gfunnyh accent(I donft think itfs Nagoya accent but itfs just funny) in Nodame Cantabile. In the 4th episode, for example, therefs a scene Chiaki wakes up in kotatsu and becomes shocked to know itfs already around 1 ofclock. Tamaki-kun says g
Mou(already)
hiru(afternoon)!h. His accent for
hi-ru is H-L. But it actually means a leech.
He should have pronounced it as L-H. Other than this scene many people pointed out his funny accent(I donft remember though), but even that makes me feel hefs charming. :hehe:
