I've always viewed Miyazaki movies as more movie than anime. I think its just the aftereffect of watching so many crappy anime movies, that I tend to separate Miyazaki's stuff. Also when I think of anime, I think TV series, rather than a movie. Maybe its just me.
18 Jun 2005, 13:54 #1786
Oh.

I always considered anime anything animated that comes out of Japan, be it movie or TV series, good or crappy. ;)

Yeah that's probably the true definition, but its like how I don't consider a McD's hamburger to be a real one, even though it technically is one. That sort of thinking. :P

in anticipation of Banner of the stars III, I've rewatched crest of the stars and Banner of the Stars I. I really liked this series... the space battles are quite epic and the characters are pretty interesting especially on Banner of the Stars. Crest of the Stars starts out real slow but gets pretty interesting in the middle and end parts. Btw. if you're a fan of this series, you migh want to head down to abhnation.com, they have a download of the abh fonts.... hehehe... in case you want to write in abh language :woot:

:D Well Beemer-

I have seen most of the Miyazaki films,
:inlove: I adored I Can Hear the Sea and Whisper OF the Heart and My Neighbor Totoro Liked the rest for the most part. COuldnt watch all of Grave of the Fireflies, too depressing.

But they still wouldn't make my top ten list and Ive been watching anime for more years than I'll cop too. :hehe: :hehe:

SO here's is my top ten. Is yours already posted, Beemer? I didnt see it.

#1 is Fruits BAsket all the way. Probably the most important anime to come out of Japan in my opinion. Hitting so many levels of human feeling while still lively and often unbelievably funny.

#2 Gravitation - terrificly romantic, bitingly funny, always original. Ive seen it many times.

#3 Hana Yori Dango - it was hard to leave this in just the #3 slot

#4 Kaikan Phrase - I have a weakness for a rock band story and the sound track rocks!!

#5 KAre Kano Gainax at their very best

#6 Slam Dunk Could not stop watching. L.O.V. E. Rukawa!!!

#7 Kenshin I will alwayshave a soft spot for the Battousai!

#8 Urusei Yatsura ~ Rumiko Takahashi at her most original. I loved Inu Yasha but it has not the story brilliance of this series.

#9 Brother Dear Brother ~ deep dark and fascinating

#10 Its kind off a tie between Hunter X HUnter, Naruto and PRince OF Tennis All fun extremely long, totally rippin' action series.

Nope. I haven't seen enough for formulate a list. I've seen most of the Miyazaki stuff, though...

Right now, I'd have to say that I'd be hard pressed to see any anime better than Kiki's Delivery Service or Princess Mononoke. ;)

Hmm, my favorite Ghibli movie must be Laputa :woot: on second place Totoro.

How's moving castle was bit of disappointing IMO...

Ive been a total animaniac for years. Its is only in the last 2 or 3 that I became addicted to drama as well.
Kiki's Delivery Service was charming. :D
I need to see Princess Mononoke obviously. It is sitting on the shelf waiting......
But if you havent seen Fruits Basket youre missing out on one of life's extraordinary experiences. Have you seen it yet? If not I will have to rectify the matter. :hehe: :hehe:

Quite a few really moving moments about acceptance and isolation, tolerance and understanding.
The episode where we see Momiji's (the Rabbits) mother for example gets to me every time. :omg:

Speaking of FB that was a nice show, don't remember too much in detail because since it's been years. But I do remember that girl and the owner of the onsen: SUMIMASEEEEEN, GOMENASAAAAI  LMAO

that's from FB right? my favorite character was Ayame and Haru, the cow haha. I remember that scene at school where the teacher had comments about his black/white hair :hehe:
