Nice. Usually the 720p comes along shortly after, so I'll be looking out for that.

ratings for episode 6 was 17.2%.

The ratings probably dropped because of the tired DV plot. :bleh: :shakehead:

Just finished Episode 6 a few minutes ago.

Spoiler — click to revealMore stalking, abuse, yada yada yada... And still no background on The Night Stalker... Enough already.

Good to see Takeru step up in this episode... And the closing admission wasn't really surprising as it was satisfying in some way... After all, those two were the most sympathetic characters.

P.S.: When Sosuke got in Takeru's face, Takeru shoulda head-butted that little punk and put him on the receiving end of some kicks for a change.

Will re-watch when the subs become available. :victory:

just gotten curious regarding the relationship chart, coz there's still one unposted pic, the one whose arrow's pointing to sousuke.. then i found this one posted in baidu..

I think Sosuke somehow sees himself in that little boy...

Maybe we'll find out before Episode 12... :bleh: :shakehead:

Spoiler — click to reveal It seems like Sousuke will start taking it out on Ruka.I think the paper that Ruka was looking at refers to her being a woman but her heart is actually that of a man,or something in that line. The same copies of the paper seem to be stuck on to the wall of Ruka's motor cross area in the next episode.

When will it stop really?Sousuke is getting really annoying.

I think the right hand side of the magazine scan said something like Nishikido Ryou and Shibuya Take???(little boy's name)'s brothers' curry's new CM?!! What is CM?Commercial?

Could it be that the little boy is sousuke's brother?

Spoiler — click to revealYeah, that dirtbag has to blame someone... Obviously he has no mirrors in his home, else he'd see who's really to blame.

Spoiler — click to revealIsn't he, though???

I hate it when writers purposely do this in a drama: they let the antagonist go unabated for all but the last episode or two... All the while frustrating the viewers to no end... It's sick and manipulative scriptwriting. :grumble:

Sorry to vent, but this character is ruining this drama.

Spoiler — click to reveal I think the writers are just trying to invoke more sympathy that the viewers will have for the protagonist by allowing the anatagonist to continually torture the lead. Then when it all ends, the evil guy gets whatever he deserves and the viewers will have a smile on their faces that the ordeal is finally over. However, this method had been used so often that it often also becomes a torture to the viewers and the relief at the end is not aimed at the protagonist's liberation but rather, our own.

I wouldn't mind it as much if the writers could come up with more creative ways that sousuke can use to torture the leads, but all the methods that he had used up till now had been mundane and boring.Threats of death and not really dying and then the posting of hate mails.Come up with something more creative for god's sake!Otherwise, just get rid of him already.I really hope that there'll be some surprises.

Spoiler — click to reveal Actually from one scene about half way through ep6, the scene with Sousuke and the kid. It showed that Sousuke isn't unkind-hearted. It seems to suggest that because of him not having a full family/mother left him early (forgot which), he's afraid of losing people who's close to him. Like when how he asks the kid whether mom's away again and asks if he wants some bread. Clearly it tells us that Sousuke thinks the kid is feeling lonely, probably because he had the same experiences.

Not saying it justifies anything but at least thats a clue into his past, which is good. I can see where he's coming at though but he definitely needs a psychiatrist more than Ruka does in anyway.

I'll buy that.

Sounds like a really cheap and manipulative plot strategy for ratings and less about the story itself.

Again, I agree... It's a really tired and unimaginative approach...

Which is why I'm starting to use the fast forward button.

I posted on another forum asking a Japanese friend in Japan how the people were viewing Last Friends. She said this:

Yes, they have two themes in that drama, DV and gender identity disorder, but the public doesn't react on those things here. We have lots of GID people here from the ancient and samurai actually recognized and accepted gay.

The audience only have interests in what the players do.

So I guess the Japanese aren't necessarily watching because they have interest in the themes, or because both topics are so taboo. She said that it was really no big deal there.

Thanks for that insight, certainly helps to get a perspective from someone actually living in Japan. It makes me wonder if the themes in the drama aren't that big of a deal, the writers of this drama must be having a hard time coming up with anything of substance for Sousuke by now. I was thinking the DV was being exploited for sheer shock value, but the answer your friend gave you gives me the feeling the writers just don't have the material so far. As for the GID and homosexual themes, I would guess now that the drama simply provides characters that viewers can relate to, rather than having them to gain attention from the public.

Yup! I mean, we can't generalize, because I'm sure there are people in Japan who ARE shocked by what Last Friends covers/deals with. But for the most part it doesn't seem to be as big a deal as we thought.

Of course, in some ways it's obvious that the Japanese are far beyond us in their open-mindedness, and perhaps this is just another example.
