Betsy Hayashi wrote:I really think that what Shido had done to Takeuchi was really crap, but thereLs a lot of exaggeration concerning the Kabuki World in your post. I have to question some things you wrote there.
Ah, thank you for enlightening everything, Betsy!!^0^ It's either I misunderstood stuff, or I didn't clearly explain more on the earlier post, I'm sorry if it sounded like an exaggeration.
Betsy Hayashi wrote:Ok, Kabuki World is in fact full of evil and conservative conventions and rules concerning marriage of the actors, but, in the same time, we have to keep in mind that a lot of other instances of Japanese society and families have that same kind of rules.
Yes, same strict traditions goes to "Tea Ceremony" families and "Ikebana" families, right? Actually, I don't think they're evil at all. Did I say it like they're evil? Those were just rules and traditions, and they're just continuing what has been applied since thousand years ago. And not all kabuki actors are like Nakamura Shido, of course. Each society contains different kind of human... even if the image of one society is bad, I'm 100% sure that not all of the humans in that society is bad.
Well, actually, I don't think kabuki is a bad society at all. I admire their traditions and performances. I admire that they can still preserve their traditions till now, and that's why I'm very, very interested in this kabuki society. Even when I finally know that there were bad stuff of what the younger generation did, I still admire kabuki.
Betsy Hayashi wrote:ItLs also true that a totally supportive to husband behaviour is expected from a wife of a Kabuki actor. And itLs also true that a lot of female stars who decided to marry Kabuki actors had the course of their careers harmed by this fact, but when they took this decision, they knew this would be happen, and the most of them accepted their destiny (and the most of them werenLt forced to marry). But this not necessarily means the end of the career of a female actress. I can mention the example of Onoe KikugoroLs wife, Fuji Junko, who still takes roles in movies.
Wooh... that's new to me. Thank you! I didn't know that. Actually, it was my Nihongo sensei who told me that being a kabuki actor's wife means they have to end their career completely and live in the kabuki path. Perhaps, this was long time ago? And there are some changes now?
Yes, I agree with you, that when one decide to be married to the kabuki family, she has to know and ready for the consequences. Unfortunately, Takeuchi Yuko is not one of them, ne. It was a rush, she has no time to think, coz she was already pregnant. If it was not because of pregnancy, Takeuchi Yuko who was still enjoying her career and has a "free soul" must have think twice before marrying Shido. It was too bad, really.
Truthfully, somehow I kinda side with the kabuki people here. I'm a big fan of Matsu Takako's family, I admire Matsumoto Koshiro as a kabuki performer and a stage actor, and I also love Ichikawa Somegoro alot. I really respect the kabuki society and their traditions.
So actually, I'm surprised and disappointed when I read rumours that Takeuchi Yuko said, "I have no intention to raise my son as a kabuki actor from the beginning,". From the beginning? When was that, even before the baby was born? That means she really don't care about the kabuki traditions? Or has she planned to divorce Shido from the beginning too?? But then, I read some of the fans said, "That article must be written by Shido's mother's request!! That obasan is very slicky,". I hope that's true, coz if she really said that, I feel disappointed with her :shakehead:
I'd like to say, that Yuko should've be more patient or forgive Shido... I mean, Shido MIGHT change if Yuko give him a chance right? Or if Yuko really loves Shido, she should've been able to give him a chance for the sake of their son. There ARE some people who are blaming Yuko too, actually. Thinking that Yuko is choosing the easy way, and just tried to escape, can't stand a little trouble, and so on and so on.
But on the other hand, I can understand very well her feelings too. She's the type of woman who definitely cannot be "prisoned", PLUS Shido had affair with different women in their FIRST year of marriage. I can understand if she really want to get out of all these. But again, she said, she won't let Shido to meet their son ever again? Hmm, I think, that's a bit too much, she should be more tolerable about this. But just like you said, Betsy, not everything the media said can be trusted, so I guess I don't have the rights to judge them.
I'll trust what my eyes sees. Takeuchi Yuko seems to be a nice and genuine person from the varieties and interviews I saw, she's open and kind-hearted. I like her acting and I like her personality. She looks like a fun person. And she watches anime!! (haha, I dunno why, just thought that's cool^^) When she appeared in Bistro Smap 5 years ago, she said her hobby is to drink sake while eating peanuts^^
But then, it's not impossible that she also has selfish and stubborn traits too. Maybe just a little part of her^^
I actually like Nakamura Shido as an actor, and a voice actor (love Ryuk!!). And he has an interesting, weird, funny character too. He was great in Roningai stageplay, and on the closing greetings, I love to see that when Shido kept joking around, Matsu Takako held back his arm like saying, "That's enough, Shido-kun, enough!"... very cousin-like interactions^^ But now, I feel disappointed that aside the fact he's a playboy, he's also a mommy's boy >_< I hope he can change these.
Betsy Hayashi wrote:And the fact of Kabuki families being treated in Japan as royal families like you said doesnLt give the actors the absolute power of living or death of their wives or children
I translated that question-answer was just to reveal what some people think about kabuki world, and that it seem its true, this world is really strict and has conventional ways. That was not my opinion
Betsy Hayashi wrote:and doesnLt keep them from being judged and punished by society, media and the own Kabuki World.
Ah, my mistake then. Sorry^^
Betsy Hayashi wrote:What Ebizo, Shichinosuke, Somegoro and Shido himself did may not harmed their careers dramatically, but, believe me, they suffered some kind of punishment for their behaviour. Shido, for example, spent about an year without being casted for a Kabuki production after the end of his marriage with Yuko. For a Kabuki actor, thatLs a big punishment.
Hooh... I didn't know abt Shido's punishment.
But I heard that when Ichikawa Somegoro's illegitimate child was revealed, the media didn't dig in about this too much, coz they respect Koshiro's family. Is this true??
Betsy Hayashi wrote:We also have to keep in mind that not everything what media says deserves credit. In Japan, as well in anywhere in the World, scandals and quarrels unfortunately help to sell magazines and newspapers. And lots of untrue things can be written or said in order to atract more readers and viewers.
Yup, I agree.
Betsy Hayashi wrote:I want to stress that ILm not defending Shido here. ILm happy to know that Yuko is happier without him. ILm just trying to let you know that Kabuki is not so cruel as some people here are saying.
I'm sorry if my earlier post give bad image on the kabuki world x)
