qnuy wrote:oh, speaking of CHUNO, it's definitely a must watch (even though I kinda dislike Lee Da-Hae there :bleh:). I enjoy his acting there and of course the chance to see him practice his martial arts :nut: I'm still on episode 14.
oh do you know that he came to Kusanagi's Cho Nan Kang? I was like ftw??! Kusanagi and Jang Hyuk have met and talked before?? you can imagine how hyper I was when I found out about it :hehe:
...
I forgot to comment on this. Please, tell me more about the scandal EG.
So you're watching CHUNO for the acting? Not for the sweaty ripped washboard abs (x 2!!!! x 2!!!!!) of Hyuk and Oh Ji-ho assaulting your senses from every frame? :naughty: (Btw, Oh Ji-ho was the guy I mentioned from my previous post, the male lead in the rom-com FANTASY COUPLE. When I first learned about CHUNO my brain fairly exploded, because next to Kang Ji-hwan those two are my biggest K-crushes. I love one for his acting talent, but I love both for... well that other stuff.)
Hountoni, Tsuyopon and Hyuk? That's like, qnuyheaven right there! :hehe: I hope they got along and had fun...? As much as I love Hyuk, he does tend to be a bit humorless during interviews, i.e.
I'm-a-serious-actor-ergo-I-take-myself-WAY-too-seriously kind of attitude. The CHUNO cast once guested on this comedy-variety show, and Oh Ji-ho and Lee Da-hae were joshing around and poking fun at each other, but Jang Hyuk was like, why-sssso-serious the whole time, and obviously did not seem to know how to play along, so the joke ended up being on him.
Re the military service scandal: Back in 2004, Jang Hyuk's movie with Jeon Ji-hyun WINDSTRUCK was a huge box-office hit, and everyone believed he was poised to make it as both a bankable movie star and a solid TV drama lead. Then came the DRAFT DODGING!!! In the same year, Hyuk and fellow actors Song Seung-hun and Han Jae-suk were exposed for using trumped up medical conditions to get out of their 2-year mandatory army service.
Korean males usually complete their MS in their early twenties, but generally actors can defer their term until several years later, especially when they're at the peak of their commercial popularity and want to keep striking the proverbial iron while it's still hot. But trying to worm your way out of MS using falsified records is a great big no-no in that country, and the way I see it, it's because of two things: (1) technically, the two Koreas are still in a state of war therefore combat preparedness is a must; and (2) Koreans have a deep sense of nationhood and civic duty.
Needless to say, the scandal sparked a media frenzy across the nation and plunged the three actors into disgrace and humiliation. The Korean government was like, "you get your sorry asses back to the army and serve your country well, you useless little pretty boys," lol. I remember photos taken of their physical examination (because obviously the media were all present!) and Jang Hyuk and Co. were in their hospital gowns, and OH BOY did they look miserable. :shakehead:
But they did their time and paid their dues, and when Jang Hyuk was discharged in 2006, the first project he did was THANK YOU, and the rest, as you know, is history. :victory:
