yes, i was merely being sarcastic to make my pont...

it definitely shows that moto kare was her first dorama after her unexpected pregnancy... a severe let down....although she was also starred in slow dance...it was a mediocre dorama with ryoko in a supporting role....to think if she hadn't had a child she was supposed to star in Engine with Kimura Takuya instead of Koyuki...she probably would have done a better job....

Ah, but there you are wrong. Moto Kare was the last dorama before her unexpected pregnancy.

Short timeline:
- Moto Kare air dates: 2003-Jul-06 to 2003-Sept-14
- Marriage to Takahiro Okazawa: 23 December 2003 (Ryoko presumably already pregnant at that time)
- Marriage ceremony: 17 januari 2004, Tokyo Japan
- Child born: 10 april 2004, name: Hiroshi (male)
- Slow Dance air dates: 2005-Jul-04 to 2005-Sept-12

sources:
Ryoko shoots self in foot with shotgun wedding (Mainichi)
Newborn won't stop rebirth of Ryoko's TV career (Mainichi)
Biography for Ryoko Hirosue (IMDb)

Oh, and interestingly enough Ryoko won a drama academy award for her role in Moto Kare:

Best supporting actress: Hirosue Ryoko/ Moto Kare

See this post: http://jdorama.com/viewtopic.php?p=145523#145523

P.S.: note to self, update Ryoko wiki pages with drama awards

Moto Kare is ok for me. :beaten: In my opinion, Tsuyoshi Dohmoto's character is the one that made things bad for this jdorama. His character, who is so indecisive, is really annoying. :grumble:

my mistake....yes that makes sense because that was one of her last major roles in a getsuku dorama.....

one of the least interesting, iredeemable characters i've ever seen in any dorama....this dorama was below average, the script was just plain bad.

The script maybe bad, but the concept is ok, and it worked for me  :beaten:

I can't help but admire the social commentary in Moto Kare. This dorama shows that the difference between men and women in the Japanese workplace is still painfully big. Gender inequality really is a big problem that Japan needs to resolve IMHO.

I really admired Saeki Makoto (Ryoko) while she persevered in her fight for an equal chance and I was rooting for her all the way.

To the defense of Toji (Dohmoto Tsuyoshi), he has to make a very difficult decision. The security of his current job and career, or follow the woman he loves into a unkown future. What would you do?

he is presented with a difficult position but he strings along his current girlfriend in his wishy-washy state of mind for far too long and i think draws the ire of the audience especially considering his girlfriend was presented as faithful, caring woman. ultimately the sexualization of the japanese woman does get some exposure here but i don't think the issue was necessarily treated in a forward looking matter by tsuyoshi's character.

i will say at least the fact that, thematically, the issue is addressed is commendable.....even though i thought it could have been presented in a more forward fashion...although i didn't particularly like dorama either....i felt Ryoko Shinohara's portrayal in Anego more successfully delved in contemporary social issues for Japanese women much more effectively and thoughtfully. Her performance carried the dorama in my opinion..

interesting discussion. :victory:

I like how Moto Kare somewhat focused on the careers of the characters and the things they have to deal with in their career, which makes the drama realistic. About Toji, I know that it's hard to choose between 2 cute woman :hehe: , but given that his current girlfriend is so dedicated to him, then he shouldn't have had a hard time choosing between the 2 and should have chosen his current girlfriend. (Toji = :beatyou: )

Yeah, I felt that her character in slow dance doesn't have any significance in the story, I mean the story can go on even without her character.
