Maybe some of the people here are also Yama-P fans and are disappointed by the accident in Music Station on the 26th. As I think this is not something totally unrelated to Arashi, I'm posting what I found about the fact behind this.

Just all over the net, I have read accusation and making fun of his "lip-syncing exposed" in that performance when the mic stand fell down and his voice was clearly heard although it was obvious that he was not singing to the mic.

But someone who seems to be an expert of acoustic techniques of theatre is talking about this incident and explaining that this technique of mixing the singer's pre-recorded voice with his real singing voice is nothing unusual, nor anything to blame for (at least THAT much.) The purpose of doing this is to add richness, to protect his throat from shouting, avoid picking up his heavy breathing in the latter part of a song especially when the singer must heavily dance at the same time, and so on. It's being done purely to make the performance better, as part of "stage direction," but the bottom line is, the singers ARE actually singing.

Please read the details here, as I can't translate everything. (Please someone volunteer to translate/summarise it, if this could be interesting to many people.)

but I realised myself they're mixing they real voice with playback, as well... you can hear it all the time in the shows and even cons, but well... I guess it's fine if you still can hear some of real voice and when you get SHOW full of dancing (like Ohno's solos *__________*)

I hadn't heard about that incident! Thanks for posting it. People were actually making fun of the performance? Anyone with ears, especially fans, should be able to tell that 90% of JE group performances are lip synced / partially lip synced. All he did was make a mistake on stage. It happens to everyone. Those accusations really are unfair. :grumble:

Slightly more on topic... Did anyone ever notice that Jun almost always sings his solo parts live? Even though his singing is, er, questionable quality XD, it makes me think that he honestly enjoys it and wants to get better by practicing. I wish Captain would do the same; he's such an amazing singer when he's relaxed, but live on stage it takes him half the song just to warm up. Aiba-chan too. Well, maybe in Aiba's case, there's no hope. :nut: Don't hurt me Aiba fans! Teasing is the greatest form of affection. XP

It really has been a bad week for JE boys. Luckily, I haven't read any bad news from Jun's butai today. I hope he's feeling better. :patpat:

Of course they are -as we say- "half-playback"!!! I even saw TOTAL playbacks XD (like one of my all-time-fav Nino's Natsu looked like one. (he turned his mouth away from the mic when he looked down, and not even a bit change in the song's quality ... But who cares?! XD I love it anyway XDDD))
And... Would anybody be able to dance around for 3,5 hr in HUGE WARM clothes without sweating and panting?! Oh, come on...

About Jun's solos: Hehe... Maybe he is just perfectionist ^^ I like that kinda people ^_^ ...although if he ever fails to be perfect... he'll have a hard time getting over it (like his perf.)

you'd know if you watched, yamapi's mic stand tppled over, and in confusion it took a while before he got hold of his mic again.
supposedly, his voice shouldn't be picked up by the mic but his song was still heard. so most people seemed to think he was lip-synching.

but hey! i have a little knowledge about this, saying it was lipsynching, i think that's quite pitiful.

arashi fans everywhere are probably saying it was lip-synching, but it wasn't lip-synching, man!! so for the sake of their dignities, *laughs* the speech of someone who knows a little about acoustics...

1.) what they do in stage plays is they use the technique called prescoring. prescoring in tv is a little different from prescoring in stageplays but they're very similar. but i don't know how they do it in tv, so i'll refer to stage plays for now. prescoring, is used in many musicals, it's an unusually popular technique, the actor's voice, which was previously recorded, accompanies the actor's actual voice as he speaks.

that technique is adopted for various reasons, aside from emergencies, usually to:
1. "thicken" chorus parts
2. increase the volume
3. to avoid volume reduction in the latter parts
and other uses. whichever it is, it is an important part of a production.

there's still parts 2 and 3.. and i'm not sure if i should continue.. since it's pretty long.. x_x

that would be starnge if Arashi fans did laugh as well Arashi do this lip-synch or whatever too, and we all know it:D for us it's fine :D I just hate when other people points it out when I get all lovy-dovy about Arashi XD but then when they don't want me to kill them they say they do understand that we can't get both - good dancing show and great live singing:} at least they don't sing 100% from playback;p
