Describes work today as well. Although getting paid to be a vegetable has its advantages. (Now I know how Tackey feels) [/list:u]

lol. Happy Thanksgiving!

My aunt came from the Philippines last week and she asked me to explain thanksgiving to her (they don't have this holiday in the PI). Then I told her how the pilgrims came to America and the Native Americans gave them food while the pilgrims gave the Native Americans disease and suffering. :hehe:

Have a great day everyone!

Thanksgiving is simply America's Autum Harvest Festival.

Almost every other culture on the planet has a harvest festival.

An Autum Harvest tends to mean that your culture will survive.

The story of the Pilgrims and the Indians celebrating the first "Thanksgiving" comes from the early 1600s.

The 38 English settlers (the Pilgrims) and their neighbors, the Wampanoag, celebrated that first successful harvest with a feast.

The English brought what they had raised, and the Wampanoag brought meat (turkey) fish, and corn.

It was a friendly celebration.

Yup. Later on many of the native peoples died as a result of contracting illnesses brought over by the Europeans. Flu, Small Pox, etc. But it's not like the Euros planned a biological attack.

For all the misunderstandings and bad blood that followed... that first Thanksgiving was a good day.

Triky hasn't been here all day, guess he gorged himself on too much roast suckling duck. :shakehead:
23 Nov 2007, 14:37 #178
Whoa, back from the turkey food fest... I think we gorged ourselves on the side dishes (green bean casserole, stuffing, creamed corn, glazed carrots, sweet potato casserole) more than the turkey itself. :beaten:

Now I've got three days to work it all off.

I'm sleeping in and then washing my car later.
