heyo!
first post :P
THERE IS PLOT/A BIT OF SPOILER (I think) IN THE POST. WARNING XD IN THE RECOMMENDATION PART OF MY POST

I have recommendations below, but I'm gonna ask a question or two first :o. I was just wondering what is a really good comedy series? I have seen Gokusen and GTO in terms of comedy, but I want to see more :P.

My second question is where can I buy these DVD/Drama Series. I can get quiet a bit of series, but most are incomplete so I wish to purchase these :(. Like... Stand up!! series

I recommend Kurosagi, Ichi ritoru no namida (one litre of tears), and GTO (great teacher onizuka)

Kurosagi is about a young man in his early 20's who goes around swindling swindlers. The reason he is doing it is to avenge his family. It is also a partial-romance series.

Ichi ritoru no namida is a tragic genre series. However, it is so good it counts as one of the best drama series I have ever seen (North American or Asian).
Ichi ritoru is about a young girl who has been diagnosed of a brain disease. It is about her struggles with it and her relationships. It can be said as a "slice of life" genre. (super recommend)

I am looking for 2 type of drama.

Anyone know some good school drama like - GTO,Dragon Zakura, Gokusen?
-Im looking for some funny drama, but doesnt go plain hiliarous only. I hope it has a very intersting story too.

Another one i am looking for is romance drama.
-Possible setting is maybe school (high school or college) or maybe a little older is fine. I know there are a lot of these, but im looking for one that people think is good. (Please indicate if it is a happy one or a sad one)

Thanks!

Good to know. :victory:

Hmm, a more adult school (literally) drama worth seeing is Medaka, if you haven't seen that. :)

If you take a look at the reviews, some people say it's a female version of GTO... :)

I do believe there really isnt much of a romance in GTO though... (Well there is sort of), but im looking with a drama that is sort of mostly romance.

Hmm, then Medaka might not be what you're looking for.

Not to worry, if it is similar to GTO (in a way), then i will definetely watch, and it does fit one of the type of School.

For an example for the romance drama, it would be moto-kare.. Any sort of overal romance drama that people think is good would be fine. (Please indicate if it is a happy one or a sad one)

Summer Snow? Same lead couple, and it should be better than Moto-kare. It has its funny moments but overall more sad than happy I think.

I have only seen those well-known series so I am just repeating what others and I have said already.
Long Vacation, Beautiful Life, Love Generation, Last Christmas, etc.
There are happy moments of course but the rest are rather heavy. Last Christmas and Long Vacation is probably the lightest of these 4.

Just look at what people have recommended and voted already. The top 50 are not all good but it's a good guide if you are just starting.

I'd take the Top 50 and any reviews here with a grain of salt: it's a popularity contest based on the stars in the drama, not the quality of the drama itself.

Yes, but most of the top 10 are pretty good I think.
It's hard to differentiate between biased and unbiased reviews though.

I have been meaning to ask about Tokyo Tower, but couldn't find a thread for it (not linked and search didn't find it either), so I hope it's ok to ask here. Of the 3 different versions: SP, series, movie, which is best and what are the differences? Do they basically have the same story?

A good reference point (IMO) is how well the reviews are written: is the reviewer overly gushing about an actor/actress and forgetting about the drama itself? What's the reviewer's track record on reviews? How do other reviews of the same drama compare?

A tipoff to a poor review from a member: it's one sentence. Or less. :beaten:
